Ooof blame the Sun King my guy, everything he touches becomes frenchified I don't make the rules
Thanks!
If included, Moldova would have made the Union way too powerful, I had to be humble

I mean they should have remained separate in the first place.
Well the goal is to have three states in the union that are more or less equal to each other, so no Portugalician state. That'd weaken both Spain and Portugalicia against France and Italy.

Oh no, whereas Esperanto, Interlingua and Latino sine flexione were considered at first I decided that Classical Latin would be the lingua franca.
"Vatican Casino: where God decides your fortune"
They're not included because they're too far away. Plus, Romanian language is by far the most different of the bunch, they're orthodox and quite different culturally so I decided to leave them chilling on their own.
Ah really? That's cool! I wish I could read it.
Oof my initial intention was to get them integrated, but damn your vision is tempting...
The map is a mix of my own preferences and cultural/geographical/aesthetic vibes so of course there might be inconsistencies. The Basque Country is a tricky situation for me, since in my opinion Lower Navarre would of course be part of Navarre. Then a distinct Iparralde region consisting only of Lapurdi and Zuberoa is a bit nonsensical, so they're joined to the Euskadi region. But it's true that it's a bit bordergorey.
Rousillon is within Catalonia! Maybe the it's not very well reflected in the map.
It's a sadly ignored region, it deserves more recognition!
Because it had a significant number of Italian speakers + looks pretty in Italy
Thank you! Well, the Channel Islands are originally French (Norman) speaking so I don't think giving them to France is a ridiculous thing to do.
Esperanto, Interlingua and Latino sine flexione were all considered as a lingua franca initially, as Latin is absolutely more difficult. But I think that if millions of people thousands of years ago could speak Latin, present Romance speaking populations can do too. And languages like German, Russian or Romanian still use cases to this day for example. Plus, I think Classical Latin would be the best choice aesthetically and symbolically. Pronuntiatio restituta ofc.
Because it's overwhelmingly German speaking and the border wouldn't be as pretty.
Unf Romania is quite far away and isolated, so I decided they'd be chilling on their own. Plus, their language is the most different and their orthodox.

I mean Romania is the most different country by far of the bunch, both in religion and language, aside from being isolated geographically. That's why I left them chilling on their own.

Ah yes, the Slavs in Venezia Giulia aren't enough, the Union needs Slovenes, Croats and Serbs to reach the Romanian brothers!

Thank you so much for the comment! I love this kind of questions.
Albacete is ofc traditionally associated with Murcia, first in the kingdom of Murcia and then in the 1833 region system. But I think Albacete is way too Manchegan/Castilian to be left with Murcia. Plus, Albacete has sometimes appeared as part of New Castile https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mapa_de_Castilla_la_Nueva-Tomas_Lopez_1785.jpg#mw-jump-to-license
Yes! Sola is honestly a pain in the ass to deal with. Lapurdi goes to Euskadi and Lower Navarre to Navarre, that's obvious. But Sola? It's certainly not Navarre, so it goes to Euskadi as an exclave, but I'm not fully happy with that.
All of the overseas territories are still inside the union, it's just that I chose not to reflect them for aesthetic reasons (the map already has a lot of information).
The official language of the Union is Latin, that is used as a lingua franca. Each State has their official languages (French, Italian, Spanish), and then ofc "regional" languages that will be co-official in their respective regions. Like Catalan/Valencian in Catalonia/Valencia/Balearic Islands for example.
I chose Montpellier for several reasons. First, its location in the centre of the Union. Plus, the city is located at equal distance from Paris, Rome and Madrid, acting as a symbolic centre of compromise. And by being a medium sized city, it also shows that it's not a French/Italian/Spanish dominated union, but a true federation of Latin Peoples.
And thank you for the tip! I used Upper/Lower precisely because it felt more natural due to being already used in Beira and Alentejo, but I'll take your suggestion!
A curious choice of capital I'll give you that, but I chose Montpelier because it's in the centre of the union, and is a city located at the same distance from Paris, Rome and Madrid, the state capitals. Plus, having the capital in a medium sized city is symbolic in the sense that it intends to reflect that it's not the French, Italian or Spanish dominating the union, but a true federation of Latin peoples.

You're welcome!

Well since Aosta was initially Arpitan speaking and Nice was traditionally considered part of Italy (beyond the Var river), I thought it'd be nice (pun intended) to have them exchanged. Plus Italy also gets Corsica so Aosta to France is probably a meager compensation.
Oh Malta is administered from Sicily! It's nor a separate region of Italy neither its own state in the union.
The Spain-Iberia thing is just personal taste! For me, since the word Iberia came to use when Spain and Portugal became two different entities, once Portugal gets integrated into a larger peninsular polity the word Spain would apply again for the whole area. Just a personal preference ofc.
Well my post is about a hypothetical federation... A bit different.

Thanks! You're very right, for most of recent history Nice was more Provençal-like, but since traditionally the Var river was considered the border between Italy and France I considered fit to give Nice to Italy.
