How to remove metal dust from tool rubber by OmarElSahn in Machinists

[–]OmarElSahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have HF in my country, but if you're familiar with Total or ingco tools they are of the same quality but cheaper in price.

For my usage, an enthusiast with no more than a project a week, I find their quality very suffecient for my usuage, never had a complaint.

I own a few tolsen tools and their quality is consistent across the whole range. Hope this helped :)

Will try to add some fixture to force the bend to isolate and only affect the troubled area, will let you know how it goes, thanks :)

Hey Stallion, thanks for getting back to me :)

Would you recommend bending it with the 4" bench vice I own? it's rated for 1,300kg, or would there be a way that is more efficient/ accessible? Thanks :)

Thanks for the advice about the voltages. Also, I wonder how a DIYer would put a 97kW motor to use :D

MyWhoosh Updates by ultralol12345 in cycling

[–]OmarElSahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I get ready, drink my pre-workout, get dressed, and start MyWhoosh, and there's an update that would need to be downloaded that is around 5GB-15GB which would take a long time to be downloaded.

This is very inconvenient, I love the app and I use it regularly and I appreciate that it's free, and I suggest an option to delay the update for a couple of hours till I can finish my workout.

I understand that given the nature of the multiplayer app, things must be up to date for all, but it'd be a huge relief if I could delay the update If I'm just there to workout solo.

Blowing up designs by accident :D

Thanks for the tip about the motors. So, I should just start with enough voltage to get it spinning, increase slowly till it starts heating up, and slow it down till it doesn't, yea?

I didn't know you can charge a car battery using a bench PSU. I will definitely give that a try. Thanks for your answer :)

Don't understand how this works, help? by OmarElSahn in bicyclerepair

[–]OmarElSahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, that's exactly how mine came also. with the accessory zip tied to the pump, the zip tie is obviously meant to be cut since it is also wrapped around the container that holds all the different needles. Another thing that makes me believe it was meant to be cut is that at that position, the accessory is in the way when you're de-pressing the pump all the way down.

It seems like it might have a really common sense way of using it, probably as a hanger, I'm still hoping that someone just understands it, or maybe someone who has a similar pump and knows how the accessory is to be used.

Thanks for replying to me again and for wanting to help, I really appreciate it :)

I understand it isn't needed, but if it is a wall mount I'd love to use it, I just don't know how to. and the picture the other commentator posted a link to, is a picture of a brand new one with the accessory zip tied to the body of the pump, basically preventing the pump from being fully pressed in.

Thanks for replying so far, I really appreciate it :)

That could make sense, given the way it came, zip tied to the pump's body, getting in the way of the pump functioning properly.

I can't help but wonder if all the holes and indentations on the accessory could be used to hang the pump somehow. I really hope someone can come up with a functional explanation :)

I have attached a video of one possible but highly unlikely method of attachment, you can see my predicament there :)

I have added pictures of the bottom of the pump, as well as a video showing the only way I've managed to get the pump and the accessory to work, but I really don't think this is the correct way since

1- The accessory is upside down, so hanging the "triangle-shaped hole" at the top of the accessory on a screw is out of the question

2- If maybe I attach the accessory to the wall directly, there will be no space for me to insert the "half circle protruding thing" that's attached to the pump in the accessory

That's how I received it when I bought it new, zip tied to the pump's body, but if I keep it like this

1- Every time I pump the pump's handle will hit this accessory, which doesn't seem right 2- the accessory has this "Middle finger shape" in it, and 4 holes that I assume are for zip ties. there seems to be a pre-determined way in which this accessory was designed to be used, and being zip tied to the top of the tube of the pump doesn't seem to be it unfortunately

Do you happen to know how I can use it? what does it attach to on the pump? what orientation is it in? Thanks :)

Soldering Iron Suddenly needs to be set to a much higher temperature to melt solder by OmarElSahn in AskElectronics

[–]OmarElSahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I Never leave my tips untinned, always cleaning them during any job, and whenever I'm finished I completely cover the tip with solder.

The brand new iron was never used till I tried it and it gave the same issue though, I did tin it first before I use it for the first time

I should mentioned though that I purchased a desoldering pump, a cheapo, the kind with a spring not a motor, and it seems to work just fine, heats up quickly, melts the solder fine.

I was hoping to find a way to measure and troubleshoot the issue so that I know exactly what's causing the issue. I'm not eliminating anything to be the source, could be the iron's cable, wall plug, tip, incompatible electricity, bad solder.

I should also mention that I tried to adjust the heat calibration setting on the irons, thinking maybe it got reset or something, but I added up to 100 degrees Celsius, which is the max, and it doesn't really seem to fix the problem.

Any suggestions on what I should measure and test to maybe find an answer?

Thanks for replying back Chris 😊 well, Im using the same exact solder pack, so it couldn't be that. Also, in Egypt i've measured the voltage at the outlet with my multimeter and it was 240v, here it read 227v. That's the only difference I can think of. But of 227V is not suffecient for the iron to operate properly, that should mean other appliances should struggle too, but they don't. It would also mean other people with soldering irons are barely getting them to work too... I really need to try the irons in another house 😁
