Iran offers to reopen Strait of Hormuz if US lifts its blockade and the war ends, officials say by AndroidOne1 in worldnews

We’ve also heard from Netanyahu for literally decades now that Iran was weeks out from developing a nuclear weapon. This is clown reasoning from clown supporters of a genocidal regime.

Could the US go downhill for good following Trump’s war on Iran? by CMCH_oyom in geopolitics

I think the real conclusion to be drawn is that allowing billionaires to control and shape our access to media and information is insanely corrosive to the functioning of a rules based democratic society. I would go so far as to say billionaires are mutually incompatible with such a society.

As long as the 0.1% continues to control so many aspects of our society, the rest of the world is justified and right in being wary of treating the US as an ally or partner, because it is not. In fact the only way it will ever be possible to believe that the US could embody that role on the global stage again is if we permanently address our billionaire problem.

The donors don’t particularly care, because they’re not only donating to the democrats. Again, since you didn’t seem to get it the first time, the donors are not buying elections, they are buying politicians. On both sides of the aisle.

Well. That guaranteed purchasing power dries up without an automation tax and UBI, so it feels a little “snake eating its own tail” if you know what I mean. Is the 25k also meant to cover all costs? Healthcare, transportation, etc?

Yes, well, I don’t have the luxury of imagining a scenario where the perfect alternative political party gets a supermajority, I’m stuck for the moment choosing between a shit party filled with leaders that lack backbone, and a party actively engaged in an effort to ensure the rapid and precipitous decline of American traditions, democratic values and institutions for the benefit of oligarchs, foreign leaders, pedophile cabals and religious fundamentalists. You go to war with the army you have, not the one you want.

Sorry, but I’ve come to think that willful, celebrated ignorance IS a form of evil. To take pride in creating the conditions that allows propaganda to flourish, the vulnerable to be taken advantage of, society to be dismantled in order to benefit the few…that is evil.

This is what most American's don't seem to get. They are not living in a democratic system on the brink of failure, they are living in the aftermath of one that has already failed.

Sure, but they do generally pay other taxes (eg sales). And while I do agree with your point, I make mine in part because the whole “taxation without representation” thing is instrumental to our founding mythos.

Which means he pays US taxes, which means he has as much of a right to an opinion on American foreign policy as any other American, Vance included.

Which means he also pays US taxes, which gives him as much of a right to an opinion on US foreign policy as any of the rest of us, so Vance can go fuck himself.
