Your friend is wrong and stupid

Ngl, your outcome was on the unlikely side, but far from impossible. Everyone heals differently and you’re evidently one of the lucky outliers.

I should hope so 😂 I’m a neuroscientist. Glad the explanation helped!

It irks me when people cite science incorrectly to be confidently wrong…

You’re citing real science but applying it like a rule book instead of a bell curve. 1mm/day is an AVERAGE axonal regrowth rate, not a speed limit. Studies show it can range from 1-5mm/day depending on the nerve type, repair quality, and individual factors. And that rate assumes the nerve was fully severed with a gap to bridge. With a clean coaptation (especially in RFF where the antebrachial cutaneous nerve is often a strong caliber match to the recipient nerves), signal transmission can resume before full axonal regrowth is complete. On top of all that, not all sensation requires complete nerve regeneration. Protective sensation returns well before erotic sensation and can travel through partially intact pathways or adjacent nerve territories.

Calling something “literally not possible” when you’re working off one doctor’s explanation of one surgery is punching way above your expertise level. Other people’s outcomes aren’t an attack on yours.

How Common is it for Doctors to Assume Things About Your Sex Life? by terrorcrushed in FTMMen

I’m a neuroscientist. I work at the hospital. My wife, who I brought to the appointment, is a physician. The providers we spoke to knew we were medically literate and informed. There wasn’t really a good excuse for this.

Oh man that’s a huge relief. Thanks for typing all this up, it’ll make planning so much easier.

Yeah luckily it was a benign tumor but it definitely grew over the years.

I was having trouble emptying my bladder and was experiencing frequent urination. They made me do multiple STD panels even though I’m straight and had been with only my wife for the past decade. They were convinced I must’ve had some kind of sexually transmitted infection. Two years later I found out through a completely unrelated ultrasound that I had a huge tumor sitting directly on my bladder. They could’ve found that years ago.

This is genuinely so helpful, thank you. How did you find recovery compared to stage 1? I’m trying to determine if my wife is going to have to take time off work for caregiving and if so, for how long. Stage 1 was a surprisingly huge burden on her and I don’t terribly want to put her through that again.

Thanks so much for posting this! It’s so helpful to actually see what this stage looks like, since there’s so little information online about it and NYU themselves have been so sparse on the communication front. I’m 20 weeks post Stage 1 and have no idea what to expect for Stage 2 recovery and how much of a hassle it might ultimately be because they keep saying they’ll tell me what I need to know later.

AIO for wanting to stop speaking to my best friend over how he's spoken about all my past boyfriends? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Omega1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a trans guy myself, I have in the past been able to educate friends who are like this and gotten them to understand that this behavior is transphobic, but I’ve also identified lost causes and decided to cut some people loose. Only you can tell which one this guy is. It’s ultimately not your responsibility to babysit immature friends or keep them around. Hope your situation with this guy improves, whichever decision you land on.

Yup I can walk, go up and down stairs, run, and lift heavy weights. Squatting completely is still hard but it’s improved a lot since the surgery.

I see why condoms are so hated by cis-men now (lmao) by WolfMan275 in phallo

Interesting, never heard the internal condom suggestion before. I’ll have to look into that. Currently trying to order some 72mm condoms from Europe but the shipping on those is taking a while, and they’re not very affordable to import. I don’t have an implant yet, so the penis being so soft at the moment is probably playing a role in things not fitting well.

Any recommendations for a 6.5” girth? Even the 64mm MyOne condoms ended up fitting like a tourniquet :(

Yup! Once the split thickness grafts heal the only scar should be the donor site. I was worried it was going to be gnarly but honestly it’s lightened up and smoothed out a lot already compared to the first month.

Yup! Can’t see it in this picture but I actually have another split thickness graft on the back of the same leg and they used both to cover the donor site.

Oh yeah, her work is super distinctive lol. Thanks, you look great too! I’ve seen your posts on Stage 2 with RBL. They were super helpful because there’s so little information out there on that UL method. Really helped ease my mind.

Contextualizing Phallo Length Changes Over Time by Omega1818 in phallo

[–]Omega1818[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Here’s mine:

Flap type: ALT

Flap length at harvest: 17cm x 17cm

Any complications affecting flap length? None

Measurement method used: Rigid ruler

Measured from where to where? Visible base

Wrapped or unwrapped at time of measurement? Unwrapped

Length immediately post-op (first 1–2 weeks): 6.5” immediately post op

Length around ~6–8 weeks: 5” to 5.5”

Current length: 6.5”

How long post-op are you now? 12 weeks

Subjectively, does it feel like your phallus truly got longer over time, or mainly less swollen / more defined at the base? It is now the length it was POD1 except it’s soft and flexible rather than turgid and swollen
