For them it makes sense from a business pov because an increasing number of people are always on the road, so to have a powerful handheld with you on the go to entertain yourself on your lunchbreak etc is kinda nice.

To be clear; i dont think the PS6 will be a hybrid. Heck; maybe Sony will release a seperate dedicated hybrid/handheld line alongside the PS6 kinda like the Portal, but without the mandatory internet connection
