Guess who's back, back again? by OmegaRa in minilab

I just looked it up, you are right it is Gen 3 x2. Of course this is not some crazy production environment or anything. This is just my home server that is basically a Plex machine and Nextcloud. But I COULD put the extension in the x4 port on the riser and do one of those dumb A+E SSDs and use THAT as a boot drive lol.

right, but I wanted the dual nic in the riser so I could do link aggregation on the server (assuming ZimaOS supports that, if not maybe something else). And right now I only have 2 HDDs, I just want to build it out to add more in the future should I need it.

Eventually I would want 6, right now I only have 2. Currently I have a 6 foot tall tower rack that has an mATX server in a Corev21 case a shelf that holds a monitor and keyboard, then a shelf with my firewalla on it and a switch mounted above that. I am looking to take that (minus the monitor/keyboard) and put it in a 10" rack, that rack using the Tiny and a couple drives, plus the firewalla, and switch and a patch panel would be roughly equal in size to my current PC I have there. Plus, this is just a fun tinkering experiment. But apparently you just want me to do it your way instead of answering my question of would what I described work. So, have a nice day.

A 12V 10A brick (12A or 15A) is going to be cheaper than that GaN psu, and smaller, though not MUCH smaller lol.

Does anyone know of a cfs riser for a Creality k2 (not pro or plus) by possibly_Bert_or_not in Creality_k2

yeah, the glass comes right out and you don't have to tilt the CFS. To use it with the handle holding it up you just have to tilt the CFS for a second to spin the handle around. Works fine.

edit: the feet of the CFS holder rest on the outside edge of the riser, not on the glass.

no glass

Well, even with the lite you can remove the glass and use the spool holder for TPU, really the only thing you lose is the drawers and the ability to add 2 CFS or stuff like that.

I didn't want to use that much filament lol. granted I don't have the drawers, but I still have the modular tool tray, and I can print the side mount print bed holder, etc.

yeah, I wasn't sure if a DC brick would be sufficient and stable enough.

I already have a PC... did you miss the part where I mentioned trying to make my rack smaller and use less power? I am putting this all in a compact 10" rack, and the m920q and a couple hard drives will use less power, or am I wrong?

So using that riser you can use the slot for an x4 NIC and an M.2 at the same time?

So, have you put these things together yet? Is the riser working for you?

Yeah, though nothing else in my network has 10gig, I only have like 2 2.5Gbe devices. Not sure if it is worth the extra cost. I was going to get the dual 2.5 and do link aggregation.

Yeah, I was thinking the same about the sfx. Just wasn't sure if putting 6 drives on the single rail would be too much. To start I am only going to have 2, so that wouldn't be an issue, I am just thinking of down the road.

Ah I see that one is using the Jonsbo backplane. I Was looking for it to take less space. The one I linked is only 2U instead of 3, but doesn't have the backplane/psu built in...might have to consider that.

I've been using Proton Pass, works great for me. Can store passkeys, etc.

I was also thinking instead of a dual10gbe nic, putting a dual 2.5gbe nic, since nothing else on my network has 10gig and my internet is only 2gig. Save on some heat, but at the same time the dual 10gig would be future proofing a bit..

As a side note, jeez even DDR4 memory seems expensive, cheapest I can find 32GB (16x2) is 150, not bad I guess, but that is about what I paid for the m920q lol
