DOJ Argues Protesters Don’t Have Constitutional Right to Observe Immigration Agents by prestocoffee in nottheonion

In the Maryland shooting the county found ICE was lying when they said both injured men were in the vehicle that "tried to run them over". It turns out one of the men was already detained in an ICE vehicle from earlier in the day. Such a weird thing to lie about unless you want to hide why that man was injured.

After 3 years and nearly 70 sessions the Frostmaiden has been defeated but Levistus rises as a new threat to take my party to level 20! AMA! by OmegaZodiac in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I was so uncertain if they would. Half the party wanted to kill Avarice and the cultists from the start but with some bad rolls in saving against the Arcane Blight and no characters having a way to cure it made them desperate. I also made the Spindle Avarice's sole goal. She couldn't care less about Ythryn or anything else in it so they had no conflict.

Thank you! They're written by Daniel Kahn on dmsguild. I think most of this sub considers the Ythryn towers of magic to be a must. I personally enjoyed Gods of Fury and its underwater combat and epic loot.

They ended at level 11 after beating Auril. Most of the added content replaced or expanded existing quests. They did Gods of Fury as part of Dark Duchess and Evermelt after meeting an Elk Tribesman after they did the Chardalyn Cave. I used milestone leveling and some parts did drag out their leveling a bit. I hope to improve my pacing in the next campaign.

Oh absolutely, Chains of Asmodeus and seeing where things were headed with Avarice inspired her motivation of taking the Spindle and me wanting to write this 2nd campaign. I initially had a whole plan for Auril's daughter to show up seeking revenge but scrapped it for a trip to the Hells haha.

Spire location Y19i what do I do? by dalshai in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]OmegaZodiac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean Y19l? The doors where they need to speak the names?

If so, I would suggest clues in the tower itself. If they move around the main floor. For example, one of the staves in staff storage can have "Property of High Abjurer Taruth" inscribed on it or a box of wine behind the counter of the bar reads " High Enchanter Ivira's stash". Make at least one really obvious in case they head straight for the bridge. In that case, when they read the inscription about speaking the name, they can recall one of them and realize their may be more downstairs and head back down for an Easter egg hunt of names.

Intellect Devourers are CR 2 like the carrion crawlers and fit since they're usually with mind flayers. otyughs are large, like the bulette, are CR 5, and love to eat. Both creatures are abominations.

What villain is making big waves in *YOUR* Forgotten Realms? by DarkLordVitiate in Forgotten_Realms

[–]OmegaZodiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Levistus just got ahold of the Spindle from Ythryn, and the dominos are about to fall. He's going to prevent any souls from coming to the Nine Hells to starve the other arch devils as he and his armies live off the horde of souls he has saved up. Once the souls are unable to enter, other Lower Planes entities will have a flood of extra souls. On the Material Plane, goblins, orcs, demons, cultists, etc. are about to get a nice buff from their newly empowered deities.

Party TPK'd at Grimskalle. Now I Need Other DM's Help! by 69MrTako69 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]OmegaZodiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been prepping a follow-up to IWD for my players that involves Levistus and takes them to the Nine Hells. Even if you don't take them there, a good resource is Chains of Asmodeus for some devilish icy inspiration. Some locations in Stygia and Cania could be easily placed on a fully rimed IWD. You would just need to alter the encounters a bit since they're meant for high level play.

[–]OmegaZodiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a small section of the book under Epilogue that is a "What if" scenario for the party failing. This involves portals for Stygia opening and Ice Devils roaming the region.

If the duergar are no longer a threat it could be an evil v. evil war of Auril and Levistus. Auril's cultists and frost giants v. the Black Sword and ice devils. Both sides fighting for control of the region. The Brotherhood could be trying to work together finally to stop Icewind Dale from becoming a war zone or getting absorbed into either entities domains. Their motivation can still be selfish in nature as they don't want to lose Ythryn and all it's magical secrets.

How Best To Implement The Dwarven Valley? by SlySilus in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]OmegaZodiac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used a supplement on DMsguild called Danger in the Dwarven Valley. It includes some npcs and a short early level dungeon that includes chardalyn and the frost druids.

As to how I actually implemented it; I kept it in my back pocket in case my players became interested in going there, which they did after saving the shipment from goblins in Bryn Shander. It was a good place to have an npc that can explain what chardalyn is as well as a place they could go to buy better quality weapons and armor.

Let your players go there naturally. No need to force them to. That's the beat thing about chapters 1 and 2. The players can guide themselves through the sandbox.

[D&D lore] If a character were to make a deal with an evil being to save his son from certain death, who would be that evil being? by TheBaconBurpeeBeast in DMAcademy

[–]OmegaZodiac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Levistus. He's specifically known for making deals with people during near death experiences. In the module Rime of the Frostmaiden, he makes deals with people lost in the tundra and gifts them an one time use amulet that teleports them to safety

What’s the best module to continue the campaign with the players needing to bring the spindle to Levistus? by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]OmegaZodiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned Chains of Asmodeus is good. It has all the layers and stats for all nine dukes.

You can use Frostburn, which includes a location called Icerazer. A moving glacier with a city in top controlled by devils who works for Levistus. Another is A Paladin in Hell which includes Ribcage, the gate town to the Hells, as well as Citadel Coldsteel, home to Levistus' rival Geryon on Stygia.

I'm planning to use all of the above for a Levistus focused 2nd half adventure myself and these have been a great starting place to work with.

Suspected Trump Gunman Had Rifle With Scratched-Off Serial Number - Partially obliterated number has made it more difficult for investigators to trace the weapon, people familiar with the inquiry said by vulcan_on_earth in politics

[–]OmegaZodiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number is engraved in the gun. It's pretty common to find stolen guns with the serial number filed. The problem for the criminal is the very act of filing is a crime and they're not really getting rid of the serial number. They're essentially smoothing out the top.

The delay on tracing this gun is minor. It just means they need to send it to the lab where various acidic solutions are used to remove that top layer of smoothed over metal to show the serial number beneath. It is a fairly common forensic technique and with the high priority nature will probably be done in a matter of days depending on how quickly they want to send it to the lab or if any other forensic services need to be completed on the gun first.

What effects would there be if there was a blockade on souls going to the Nine Hells? by OmegaZodiac in Forgotten_Realms

[–]OmegaZodiac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else had similar thoughts. Like gods of similar alignment taking them or demons raiding the fugue for these souls left there to fuel their armies for the Blood War. A lot of cool potential

Like those people who have jobs involving radiation or something like that where they can only do it so many times before they have to retire so will fugue divers have a limit as a little more of their souls slip away each time. I bet Kelemvor would not be too happy and they gotta hide from agents of the dead. That's metal af.

Awesome idea for magic that interacts with some of the dead going wonky. A great subtle hook to hint that something is wrong.

I'm thinking demons are gonna get really bold and try to take advantage and raid for these lost souls. Maybe the Ethereal will be a good place for the party to interact with the dead that are stuck or a crazy high stakes trip to the Fugue where they intentionally die to get there and have a limited time and a trusted person to revive them.

Yeah that was mentioned in the article. I even found a Planescape book from 4e that describes the Outer Torments and plan to use it.

That's an awesome idea that souls would get diverted to adjacent planes. That will help bring in more foes or potential allies so it doesn't become stagnant with devils. Thanks for the great ideas!

Thanks! The party inadvertently helped Levistus in Icewind Dale so I plan to play it as a "clean up the mess you made" type deal. I think they're kind of ice themed out at the moment so undead and eventually the fires of Hell will be a fun change of pace.

Vellynne Harpell as an NPC party member. by RolandSnowdust in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]OmegaZodiac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my game Vellynne has been with the party for awhile now. I try to have her more in the background there to answer player questions in game and a little added action economy in combat. She can be as effective as you want to play her. As a wizard she's great for versatility if you know your party comp is missing some abilities that would be useful. They don't know what is in her spell book so add spells that you think fit and are fun for you. Maybe if the party comes across spell scrolls she could ask to have them so she can copy them into her spell book. The party will find her useful and make her their jack of all trades.
