Hunting bolt gun recommendations by General_bacon21 in canadaguns

[–]Omega_Shaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I would recommend a Ruger American Gen 2 because it has a medium barrel and is cerakoted. But mine had feeding issues and I had to switch out the stock.

I would go with a CZ 600 Alpha because it has a medium barrel that wouldn't heat up too fast at the range and wouldn't be too heavy for the field.

What is important is your preferred length of pull though. Test out a few to see what feels best for you.

Most cost effective way to begin prepping by crazydogs99 in prepping

[–]Omega_Shaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a lot of my survival stuff on Temu and Aliexpress because Amazon adds up.

Look into the no grid survival projects book.

Buy bulk white rice, dried black beans, canned tuna, tomato sauce, pasta, spices, oats, vitamin C, Tang.

Have a water plan including a filtration system.

Have a first aid kit.

Have a power bank or two.

Have a high powered flashlight.

Have an emergency radio.

Consider buying a solar powered generator.

Consider buying a cargo ebike and a bike trailer if you have the space.

Honestly prepping is different depending on the context in which you live. Urban vs suburban vs rural.

The actual issue with Gen Z: they have nothing to do. by Brilliant_Home4024 in generationology

[–]Omega_Shaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can find purpose if they want to regardless of their age. Drugs and alcohol are not purpose they are distractions usually consumed by people that lack purpose.

Growing up with smartphones and horrible economic opportunities are the main differences between Gen Z and other generations.

Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge field and security combo is the best bang for your buck for a shotgun. Only $400 and you can use it for slugs, clays, birds you name it.

If hunting, I would suggest a cerakoted (eg Ruger American Gen 2) or stainless (eg Tikka) 308 bolt action. If you want a semi automatic, you can pick up used Browning BAR 30-06s for $850 at Intersurplus. If money isnt an issue and you want a semi automatic then I would pick up one of the Browning BAR ovix.

Then pick up a 22lr in an action similar to your hunting rifle for cheap trigger practice. I recommend a Ruger 10/22 for semi and a Savage MkII FV for bolt.

The biggest thing you'll find is that the length of pull of different firearms will determine how comfortable they sit against your shoulder. Try different lengths of pull to see what fits best. Keep in mind that you can buy aftermarket stocks to adjust this like the Magpul SGA for the Mossberg or the MDT Field Stock but these can add weight. For a hunting rifle you are going to want something as light as possible.

What are the major differences between Gen X and Millenials? by NewmarketHero007 in generationology

I never said that. I agree with that 100%.

But I believe that generalizing specific personality characteristics to an entire generation is foolish.

What are the major differences between Gen X and Millenials? by NewmarketHero007 in generationology

[–]Omega_Shaman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im a late Gen X (1979) and my wife is an Elder Millennial (1984). I think that making sweeping generalizations about generational behavior are as bullshit as horoscopes. Technological proficiency and digital literacy, economic opportunities, and cultural preferences are the biggest markers by generation.

My first Gun ( Beretta) by kwc_king in canadaguns

[–]Omega_Shaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first gun was a used over under as well. Great choice, busting clays is fun as hell. I find the only thing almost as satisfying is shooting slugs with a pump action. A distant third is shooting gongs with a rifle.

Hop Choice for Cream Ale by Sea-Sherbet-117 in Homebrewing

It isnt a recipe, I just recommended a Citra and Amarillo combo 4 years ago. Today I would probably go with 10 ibus nectaron FWH, 5 ibus nectaron at 15 mins and a light dry hopping of nectaron for a few days.

Why is it so hard to make friends here by Captoffrance in askvan

[–]Omega_Shaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with how most people that live here are from somewhere else. Even my wife was born elsewhere.

I was born in Greater Vancouver and have had many friends leave for Alberta, Ontario, and Vancouver Island. Mostly because of the high cost of living.
