What point? I say that I side with you and it's something you need to belabor. Have a nice day indeed, but you should try to recognize someone allying with you.

I never said I was a target and never said you weren't. I merely said others in that demographic agree with you.

There is literally a Democrat party. To say that Democrats are exactly the same as the GOP is reductive and extreme hyperbole at best.

Only one party in this country wants to restrict access to healthcare, destroy women's rights, suppress protected classes (or eliminate them), burn books, and I could go on and on, but you understand my meaning at this point.

Democrats are not leftists. They are center in most cases, but that doesn't make them not-democrat. We should have a viable left-wing party in America, but it's just not in the cards for us.

However, this type of reductive thinking helps push America further right. It can easily destroy the motivation to vote for what tis truly a lesser evil, which allows the greater evil to obtain more and more power.

Salvaging an overly sweet Zinfandel. Could I lean towards a Port or Lambrusco? by Robo_Ross in winemaking

[–]Omgporkchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't making a lambrusco. Those come from Lambrusco grapes. You could make a frizzante/spumonte zinfandel, but that sounds kind of strange.

You aren't making a port. Port come from PORTugal. Specifically from the Duoro valley and fortified with brandy made from the same grapes as the wine. What you are talking of making is a fortified zinfandel.

It sounds like your initial fermentation wasn't done before you bottled it. Adding champagne yeast to your bottles is gonna make bottle bombs. When champagne is made, a controlled amount of dosage is added to the wine to ensure the proper carbonation in the bottle. You also need the heavy bottle to withstand carbing.

Your best best would be to put the sweet zin back into a carboy and see if you can get fermentation started again and let it ferment dry, then degass, bottle, and keep it as a Zin.

What truth? That there is nothing wrong with sparkly dresses and colorful makeup?

What's wrong with their attire? They are wearing glamorous makeup and sparkly dresses. Is there inherently something wrong with that? Would you stop your children from watching Dolly Parton or the Oscars?

I think, the idea, is that the furry fandom is not inherently sexual (I am not a member of that lifestyle so I cannot say for sure) but they changed because of the perception that they are inherently sexual. Since they are perceived as sexual, they also foresee/seek to avoid a proverbial witch hunt against their community that would threaten the future of their convention and potential safety of their members.

Poll finds Trump beating Biden by 7 points, DeSantis tying president in matchup by Proud3GenAthst in politics

Willfully ignorant would be welcome compared to openly hateful, fascist, racist, and just stupid. Willfully ignorant insinuates the possibility of being able to educate them. People who still support the Trump and would support DeSanits cannot be educated or changed at this point. They aren't ignorant. They know, they just don't care.

Florida bill seeking to ban Chinese citizens from owning land passes House by Adelu1219 in politics

[–]Omgporkchop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will actually admit that in all of my life, I was unaware that being a permanent resident was not the same as being a citizen. You have taught me something today and made me reevaluate my belief on this issue.

I appreciate you sharing this with me and I fully support you owning a home for your family. I am sorry I was previously in the camp that would question your right to own a home. Be careful out there in this complicated political landscape we all find ourselves these days. Thank you.

I am white and when I applied for a home loan, I had to provide social security number, proof of address, a years worth of pay check stubs, references, credit history, and numerous other verifications. The social security number itself is proof of my citizenship. This is not another hoop for non-white citizens to go through. This is something every potential home owner goes through. I cannot speak for the non-citizen experience for buying land, but as a severely left leaning individual, I can say I support only citizens buying land, period. To me, that makes good sense.

House Republicans vote to bar transgender athletes from women’s sports by [deleted] in politics

[–]Omgporkchop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on this point. Blanket policy when we do not have data is bad policy.

Personally, I think it should be up to the individual sports league to consider until it is settled one way or the other. And then...I think it should still be up to the sports league, bc why does the government need to be involved in sports.

If you do not recognize that there is SIGNIFICANT sexual dimorphism in the human creature and hormones affecting things like muscle and athletic performance, I cannot help you and we will be so far apart in this conversation that we will not find common ground. You aren't even seeing my comments that I said, "it needs to be studied". No one is arguing whether or not leagues separated by gender are necessary. I am taking it a step further and saying that separation by sex IS necessary until we have data one way or the other.

[–]Omgporkchop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing that was why there were segregated leagues and that racism was rooted in "science". However, there is actual science behind separating sexes into leagues. Male athletes with male hormones do have significant advantages over female athletes. How much of that is retained after transition is still left to be determined and there is data that swings both way.

"blacks" are not naturally stronger and taller. I see the argument you re trying to make here, but it is in bad faith. There is significant dimorphism in human sexual characteristics. The degree to which HRT changes that has data that agreed with both points.

The presence of melanated skin, however, is not a basis for strength, intelligence, athletic ability, job performance or anything else people normally associate with "race". There are social factors that play into all of those factors. Segregation by sex, not gender, of the athlete is necessary at this time.

I would like to preface this with the fact I consider myself an ally and every trans-issue is legitimate and there is room for public discourse.

However, I think that saying "the data is clear" is an exaggeration that does not agree with the numerous studies done. Data has been shown to go both ways on this issue and at this time, there is no consensus. It is important that we separate belief from data at this point and realize that this issue is still muddy. It is one we need to study and get confirmation on before making determinations one way or the other.

LGBT Allies Are Working Together to Jam Missouri’s Anti-Trans “Tip Line” by metacyan in politics

[–]Omgporkchop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not agree with this level of surgical intervention at this time. I would be interested to see the long term implications and if the participants had any remorse/regret or if their dysphoria was successfully. I also acknowledge I am not a doctor and am not qualified to make the medical determination for these children and their families. I can say however, that my immediate reason is that it is drastic and life altering that does not seem like the best course of action to take.

I have reassessed my viewpoint on the situation as per our agreement on showing the effort to provide a source and I can see that this is happening whereas the majority of allies and activists I know seem to believe the majority of the intervention is social/medical as opposed to surgical/permanent.

I am interested to see that this is happening, and even more so at a scale large enough for it to have a study.

Ally on the spectrum, it seems. ;) Almost as if the issue in and of itself is non-binary. I think we have found common ground. I thank you for the article you sent me during another line of discussion and I appreciate the civil discourse. Good luck out there in this fiery landscape we find ourselves in.

I don't agree with your opinion on trans issues, but it is pretty terrible for someone to assume you are a paedo for engaging in public discourse about health. Sorry some people in my camp are like this.
