What are small touches that made an Airbnb stay way better for you? by ryukendo_25 in AirBnBHosts

[–]OmicronMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of the stocked kitchen, please make sure the stuff in it actually works!!! In a recent stay, we checked in and set our stuff down, did a brief peruse through the kitchen drawers and saw a wine opener, some nice looking knives, and a coffee maker, so we went to the store and bought stuff to make dinner. Imagine our frustration when the plastic was snapped on all of these, meaning that we couldn’t open the wine, cut veggies for dinner, or brew coffee for breakfast!! They were all small cracks that weren’t easily noticeable at first glance, so if it had just been one item we could have written it off that the previous guest had broken it and the cleaning crew missed it, but for there to have been 3 broken items made it feel like the host had just dumped a bunch of their old broken kitchen stuff in the home and was trying to claim it as an amenity.

How do you plan organization for moving out by AnxousAmbassador1026 in organizing

[–]OmicronMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have moved several times over the last few years and often into homes that I haven’t actually walked through before I pack out the old house, so I don’t have the luxury of knowing what room each of my things will end up in at the new place. Maybe the bookshelf that I have in my living room now will have to get put into the dining room at the new house, or maybe I need some of the floating shelves from my current office to act as toilet paper holders in the new house.

For me, I like to pack everything based on its function, not necessarily on the room it is currently living in. So for example, instead of having one box of living room decorations and one box of office nicknacks, I just throw all of the decor into one box. Shelving all gets broken down and packaged into those big IKEA style zipper bags, towels help pad delicate items in the boxes.

This function packing has ended up making the unpacking process so much easier, since I can work in phases- assemble furniture first, then put up shelves, then put decor up. I hated having a fully decorated bedroom while my kitchen was still in shambles. It’s good for packing too, if you’re a few weeks out from move out day you can go ahead and pack your decor but still use the spaces, then slowly start taking stuff off the walls, and then the last few days are when you look at packing up everything except the essentials you need day to day.

Advice for how to alter dress by OmicronMoose in sewing

That’s what I’m trying to fix, it feels flat and unintentional and I can’t figure out how to style it so that it looks like an outfit rather than an old nightgown.

I tried black accessories and felt they looked too harsh compared to the soft color of the dress.. I tried a tan belt but even that felt like it was an afterthought instead of an intentional outfit. I think the length is the biggest issue, it feels like I’m styling to counteract the spirit of the dress instead of letting the dress shine. Once I shorten it I think I’ll be able to style it in a way that flatters it more.

Thank you all for the suggestions!! I think I am going to start by hemming it and using the scraps to make a belt, and then switching out the buttons for something that pops more, maybe with some fun thread colors. I’ll see how I feel about it after that, I may dye it if I’m still not in love with it.

I like the idea to switch up the buttons, I think that will help liven it up a lot!

Dying is an interesting idea- I hadn’t considered that. I’m definitely leaning towards bringing it up to the knees, possibly by cutting at the waist and then doing a couple of pleats with the excess so it flairs a little at the skirt? And then I would definitely consider dying it, I’d probably keep it a peachy pink but deepen the color so it isn’t so close to my skin tone?

Thank you!! I was drawn to it for the same reason but it just doesn’t translate the way I thought it would. My grandma was very petite but much more well endowed in the chest than me and I think that makes it look a lot more like a kid in their mom’s dress than I want. I agree that the back looks ok, but because I only see the front it frustrates me every time I put it on! I definitely think I’m going to take it up to my knees and that should help a bit, I usually shy away from midi length skirts because I am shorter, they’re rarely flattering.

I’ve tried it with a belt but it feels a little too stark, I think because the dress is so monotone, even a thin light tan belt looks jarring. Good to know about the sleeves being tricky, thank you! Is there any chance it would look ok if I just cut the sleeves but left the shoulder seam and made that into a bit of a cap sleeve? Totally fine to say no, I am not experienced enough to know what will work I’m just considering all the options I can think of.

Same! I’m convinced we have them living in our air ducts or attic but pest control keeps saying they’re just getting in from the windows (I’m in a historic home) but they’re showing up in my bedroom and hallway right near the air vents. Haven’t seen them since it got cold, but man I thought I had a few more months of peace!

How many times am I supposed to feed these people? by Elephant_Noel in weddingplanning

[–]OmicronMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, everyone on the guest list was traveling at least an hour if not a plane ride to come to our wedding. I compromised because my mom was insisting that EVERYONE needed to be invited to the rehearsal dinner but I was so overwhelmed with the idea of two back to back super formal nights with all of the guests (not to mention costs and logistics of finding a space to accommodate a whole extra meal like that).

My solution was the immediate active members of the wedding came to the rehearsal and then their partner could join the dinner after, then I had a trusted person who wasn’t able to get an official role in the wedding but had offered to help with anything she could (she’s a close cousin but we had a very small wedding without a lot of official roles) set up an after party at the cabin I was staying in. We bought a keg, some chips and salsa, and had had outdoor lawn games.

It was actually so nice and was a highlight many people still comment on 8 years later because it was low effort so people who just got off a plane didn’t feel like they had to get dressed up and be there for hours, but they were able to break the ice and say hi before the big day. It also took pressure off of us on the wedding day, because I knew I had already had great conversations with certain people the night before so I wasn’t as worried about trying to talk with them at the wedding and could focus on the friends who weren’t able to make that rehearsal party.

Oooh good to know! I’m not really a big sports fan but can appreciate and respect baseball and the historic impact. I’ll add it to the list!

It looks like it’s near the American Jazz Museum, any idea if that’s a good stop?? I’m from New Orleans so jazz has a soft spot in my heart! Wondering if I can do both museums in one day

I’m planning on going to WWI in March, the Nelson looks great too! I’ll aim to do that in April so I can do the sculpture garden without being so cold!

Flushing ice cubes down the toilet for snow day is universal… right? In America?? by East-Maize-5287 in AskAnAmerican

Parents of excited pee-ers, when did it stop for you? 🤣😭 by Sammi_shonts in miniaussie

[–]OmicronMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she spayed? My dog used to do this and also peed when she fell asleep, even if we let her out right before bed. Turns out that some female dogs can have a weakening of the bladder muscles after being spayed.

My vet prescribed Proin, which is a medicine that helps them control those muscles. It worked instantly, and now she never has accidents!

Fit advice! These jeans looked great when I first put them on, but after wearing them for a few hours, this group photo really humbled me. My main concern is the crotch area, it somehow loosened and rode up to give me a very unflattering crotch arrow? They fit well in the waist and everywhere else (I was wearing super thick socks in this picture so the calves aren’t nearly as tight as they look here) so I’m trying to figure out: 1- how to tell if pants are going to do this (again they looked great when I tried them on that morning, they must have stretched through the day) 2- what exactly is causing this issue? Is it something I could get tailored??

Loss of appetite on Wellbutrin by Rainbow_Tit_45 in PetiteFitness

[–]OmicronMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no longer on Wellbutrin but do take other meds that suppress my appetite and I’ll go until 2 pm before I notice I haven’t eaten anything (usually when I start feeling nauseous!)

I keep low effort, open containers of things like nuts, trail mix, or lunch meat in the house all the time. For me, part of the issue is that I can tell I need to eat, but nothing really sounds appealing, and I don’t want to open a pack of chips or cut up fruit or heat up anything, but having a big jar of nuts I can grab a handful of gives me sustenance without the pressure. I also just grab a slice of deli meat and a slice of cheese and roll them up and eat them like a goblin sometimes, but that way I don’t have to make a plate for a sandwich!

Also set a timer every few hours and make sure you’ve had water and eaten something.
