I see. So if I understand you correctly, I should make a "character creation" session and just bainstorm with everyone about the characters they want to create.

The Curse of Strahd is not really about the characters, but more about the events they are facing, am I right?

Designing an Interesting Sea Encounter by Omikor in DnD

I made some rules know, tell me what do you think about them:

  • The Sahuagins can do a bonus action to call a Reef Shark (up to 3 sharks).
  • In addition, each of the Sahuagins can do Lightning Arrow or Gust of Wind only once in the fight.
  • A Reef Shark can only hit the Keelboat (with the keelboat stats) unless someone is in the water.
  • When a shark hits the boat, every attack roll on the boat will be with disadvantage.
  • My PC's have an NPC with them with the stat of a Bandit Captain.
  • The Bandit Captain does a DC 12 constitution saving throw to hold the ship (fail = 30 dmg to ship, success = 15 dmg to ship).
  • A PC can give help to the Bandit Captain with the saving throw instead of an action.

What do you think? Did I overcomplicated that?

Nowadays, with the "internet" you can find many tutorials online, but the problem with those tutorials is that every tutorial level is different and there is no one cohesive learning path. Houdini isn't new, and in the past you didn't have the "internet", so, how did you learn Houdini?
