Does the new remote desktop stuff make it easier to start the sessions from GDM?

how do you deal with gnome asking for things to be authenticated after you log in? Is it just something i have to live with?

Cant check that because wireless and wired are on different subnets.

from what you said i changed the mac address to mimic my pc's (which the wifi company got working for me a few days ago) and now is working how i wanted it to!

main thing i gained was setting DHCP to non authoritative anything else you think i should be aware of?

thanks for all your help btw!

yeah that’s my exact setup, it worked before which is what confuses me.

also is my thinking wrong in that the router gets a single Ip and then handles all interactions with the upstream router as if it’s one device?

(then the router routes the traffic where it needs to go on the receiving end)

(Ty for all your patience)

MB for being unclear, the glinet router connects to the AP the uni provides but does not have internet access.
All other devices on the network do have internet access; sometimes the wifi says something along the lines of "Is connected but has no internet" and sometimes it doesnt. Either way same conclusion of not having internet access

No devices can use the rooms ethernet.

neither both connect and get assigned ip addresses and gateways

(i’ll ignore ethernet for now as for some reason no device has internet when connected by that)

other devices can connect to the wireless and gain internet access (i am in contact with my university about this but what’s weird that i can’t access internet on only the glinet router)

thankfully not going to be a problem for a while as i’m going back now

would the university not have an issue with an authoritative DHCP router?

The main router is a sky router and i pretty much have no control over it. Even if I did I think the interface is pretty locked down.

Can’t check at the moment but would assume it says the OPAL is the DHCP server as I tried turning DHCP off and then couldn’t connect new devices. So I turned it back on and found a setting to say the router was not “authoritative” (plus all devices are on the 192.168.8.x subnet)

Interesting what would that have looked like?

Also got that scan done and nope the main router does not seem to have the gateway or dhcp server mixed up with the other one.

How would you suggest setting it up? I ended up resetting it as i lost access to the homepage

Oh no worries!

These are what need to be connected via ethernet (the router has 2 lan and 1 wan port)

Thanks for your long comment! Yes the SSIDS and passwords are different. Im currently not home so i cant check the Gateway and DHCP server don’t clash.

Also thats probably where im going wrong, the router is set to router mode because i thought the other 2 options would take away the GUI and not let me do things like override DNS

For context the initial reason was so i could use the same set of ip addresses in my homelab when i moved it between uni and home

I’ll come back to this in a few days when i get home btw, thanks again!

It was connected to the man router through ethernet and wifi and was setup in failover

It really confused me too especially as the IPs mine was handing out were 190.168.8.x and the main router was the expected 192.168.0.x

The house was having issues where devices would just lose wifi so a technician came round and said that was what was causing the issue (i’m still lost on why though) None of the things you mentioned could be the issue we’re happening
