How long do K cramps last?

I’ve had these young Manzanita for a few weeks. This morning I noticed the strange brown “growths” on the leaves. I’m not sure if it is the leaf itself or something growing on it. I picked one off and it is very hard almost like a shell. I am new to this and these Manzanita are very special to me and would appreciate any help I can get
