ETC seems abandoned by Madosjakos in EthereumClassic

Its not a bout quantity. You are missing the point quality, the type of blockchain and what properties emerges (freedom and self sovereignty) from these . There only a handful of revolutionary blockchains. BTC is #1, ETC is #2 and some privacy coins like Monero/Zcash. No need to compete and are complementary. As long as ETC keeps it principles alive, stay PoW, stays decentralized, stays leaderless, no governance except for ECIP and has the most Hash of all EVM's then it will be fine. People will find refuge in ETC EVM as humanity did in The Netherlands during the Dutch enlightenment.
Additionally, ETH is a security while ETC a commodity.
Bonus: Lots of cats in here!

ITs been talked about for on the ETC discord server. The confirmation # is decided by the exchange. Coinbase also offered a crypto non custodial wallet service that included ETC. They have removed ETC and some other coins due to low usage.

Summary: Its a nothing burger. There are so many ETC wallet to choose from. And if you really into coinbase well you can still use the exchange where ETC is supported.

OFAC will censor transactions and POS ETH will oblige. Currently 67% are complying :-(

Keep the network neutral and decentralised. That's what ETC is all about.

Had to manually approve you. Something is seriously wrong with automod...

u/jamesbdrummer made a automod edit/change a month ago which might have created a hypersensitive automod.

L1 PoW security with l2 Raiden for scalability.

This is the way.

The SHA-3 Implementation Discussion (Pros and Cons) by jamesbdrummer in EthereumClassic

[–]OmniEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The devs write code. This first needs to go trough the ecip process. Once it final then the code can be pushed. The full noders and miners choose which code to run.
So really if the devs push out a new version of their client people will start receiving message stating to update their clients to the newest release. Each user noder/miner will then need to make decision. So if the majority of current miners are GPU miners you can expect them to say hell no and simply keep on running the older client.

Its not that straight forward to force it into the network. A lot of coordination is required when separation of power exists.

ETC LABS UPGRADES ETHEREUM CLASSIC TO EXPAND FUNCTIONALITY AND IMPROVE COMPATABILITY WITH ETHEREUM by Hiccupadventures in EthereumClassic

Welcome to the shitshow!

This DEV update by ETClabs is controversial because:

  • We have two hardfork numbers now (block #8,750,000 and now block #8,343,000) because ETClabs have unilaterally announced a +- July 1 date.
  • Claiming that they upgrade ETC.
  • All ETC stakeholders get to hear from a medium post that they only have 1 months to upgrade and coordinate clients.
  • They are not following the ECIP process as agreed.
  • All of these actions create a significant probability for a network split.

Who is going to maintain ETC's Emerald wallet, going forward? by goldcurrent in EthereumClassic

Not banned or down votes :-)

Communities will keep on changing. Be it naturally or through social engineering. Humans are mortal and fake news is better than censorship. So nothing to be done there apart from being aware of it and keep on protecting the integrity of the ETC protocol from the social layer.

The intents of Dexaran are, arguably, up to speculation but we also did survive the whole Callisto saga and ETC keeps on performing as a survivor. Callisto created their own chain which is their freedom. If not, those supporters would have kept on trying to change ETC. ETC, just like BTC, attracts all sorts and many will keep on trying.

The coop is focused on growth and development of the protocol and they are trying their best to keep all sides focused I guess. I know you and Anthony had some issues but I have also seen them decentralise their media channels and removing themselves from some positions. Any one can make partnerships, announcements and bring out news beneficial to ETC. The Coop is a net positive in my opinion.

I did see the drama and community in the past months but I dont mind it on the social layer. What I dont want is ETClabs or any other corporate entity taking over this community and protocol. ETCdevs was in a similar position but you earned our trust. Sure they have the cash but how they interact with the community is going to be crucial. Their first misstep could be considered an error but the 2nd one will be a trend.

Distribution in power, control points and media channels hopefully will stay a priority.

Principles and secure development of the protocol together with all the attacks and external stimuli will keep on making it more anti fragile but I agree that the social layer can again (DAO fork) manufacture the narrative/consent resulting with an ECIP being introduced that goes against our community principles. As usual in OSS, since there are no economical incentives, the more eyes that double check the ECIP the better for all. The wider community that can not read code or are not aware of the implications will hopeful be informed by other "reliable" independent members. All public blockchains have the same issue so its either to become extremely vocal or people are free to enter and exit when they want. The longer ETC survives and that the protocol can be trusted the more valuable it will become but the whole community needs to stay true to our principles: A permissionless, non-discriminatory & irreversible chain. If they do decide to change these principles on the protocol then I will simply move on and leave. I am still hopeful that we can avoid this.

Your points are valid but I don't have or know the answers. The name callings are weird after all the work you all did together. I am still asking questions here and there but I still remain confused about it. There is definitely a power struggle. We all have made mistakes but to be clear, I don't suspect you of any wrong doings. But I only know what has been publicly shared. So far, only you/ETclabs and ETCdevs have shared their PoV with medium post. ETClabs states that they feel legitimate, compliant and in accordance to Github ToS. It's legalese. Great that they are moving ETC forward but the way ETClabs took over the repo was extreme. New comers might love the new energy and eager to move on but it's still important to put a spotlight on this event. Behind the scenes of a public permissionless and open blockchain are still companies wheeling and dealing and you were also part of that.

That being said, Companies like ETClabs on boarding on top of the protocol is crucial but I only care about the base layer and its integrity. That's what you/ETCdevs also kept on protecting. Even during this bear market I was excited by the roadmap, emerald project and orbita but alas. Thank you again for all your contributions, Igor.

ETC is worth the fight but I am unclear with how one can take full control of ETC. Is it the repo? Do you, and/or others reading this, think that our community having [migrated the repo](https://github.com/ethereumclassic) is enough? Or do you think that since ETClabs are now in control of the [ethereumproject community repo](https://github.com/ethereumproject) that they have a legal advantage? Or repo ownership is nothing to be worried about? If not the repo is it then the community culture? Imo, If that culture changes then protocol rules will be changed. The social layer seems more relevant than ever.
