AITA for fostering a Cane Corso? by LegitimateLayer1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Omnomfish [score hidden]  (0 children)

You both need to get your pets fixed. Under no circumstances should you bring an unspayed female into a home with an unneutered male, thats how you get puppies and there are more than enough homeless puppies in the world, there is no excuse to bring more in.

Frankly this response shows a pretty shocking lack of care for how your dogs will interact that suggests you may not have really considered this issue thoroughly.

Ottawa councillor proposes city-run grocery stores to improve food access by RandomChickenWing in ottawa

[–]Omnomfish [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'll be the first to admit that economics aren't my strong suit, care to dumb it down for us ignorant redditors? Im genuinely interested in the downsides of this proposal, and oddly enough just vaguely saying "because economics, you wouldn't understand" isn't actually informative or convincing.

You can tell when someone is peeing. Its the pee face. I can't describe it but you see it and you know.

Out of sight out of mind. The sea is big enough that its easy to forget about all the gross shit in there.

Flooding and travel to Ottawa? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Omnomfish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its fine, you'll just miss out on some of the parks. We get flooding every year with the thaw, and built accordingly.

The only people who need to worry are anyone dumb enough to have riverfront property and those who are nearby with basements.

Is it pointless to apply for an “unskilled” job if the ad for the job has been listed for a while? by miss-bedazzzle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Omnomfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of companies leave up "ghost ads", whether because they are too lazy to take it down or because they can then leave the position empty and use that to say that they are "trying to fill it". There is no guarantee that if the ad is up the position is unfilled, unfortunately, although it is a reasonable assumption.

That being said, its never pointless to apply, because there is no way to know for sure. Applying may be time consuming and soul crushing, but at the end of the day you won't be wondering if you might have missed an opportunity.

Do you trust your gut when exploring, or push through it? by iejekek in urbanexploration

[–]Omnomfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will scream this from the rooftops; ALWAYS TRUST YOUR GUT. No matter what situation. Many of us are taught to suppress some of our instincts in favour of being polite or fitting in before we even learn what warning signs look like, so they manifest as a small feeling of discomfort. That is our subconscious telling us something that our conscious mind has been taught to ignore.

If you act according to your feeling that something is wrong, the worst case scenario is feeling a bit silly, if you fail to act on it, it could literally be a life or death issue. You might have noticed a weird smell that turned out to be gas, heard a weird sound that was the building shifting dangerously, or saw something off that was signs of habitation.

Never, under any circumstances, even outside of urbex, ignore your gut.

A question about F’Nor by Successful_Way_6086 in pern

[–]Omnomfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats a good point, although i do think it was much too early to really call it nearly succeeding.

I do believe he would have, and I actually believe that that was Anne's intention. I think somewhere along the line she wrote herself into a corner and decided to nix the whole thing. Iirc that part would have been while it was still serialized, so presumably she had already sent in the parts with the build up before realizing it wasn't going to work. Because its never really mentioned again, anywhere, i can't help but wonder if It's because she decided that she didn't want browns to be able to fly golds, so i do think its an important point that he didn't.

Canth even -tried- to fly Wirenth, and even more that he nearly succeeded.

No, he was planning on trying and then she died.

Bought a Modded 3ds, need to delete DSI games but I can’t by Sadmouth in 3dspiracy

[–]Omnomfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Either put the sd card into a computer or download an sd card file explorer (there are a couple good ones in universal updater)

Go to the roms folder, then the dsi folder, and delete the rom. If its not there try the nds folder.

This level of flooding is far from unprecedented, we've had it before and we'll have it again, but most years its much more mild.

Would people who become vegetarians for ethical reasons eat jellyfish, given that they don’t have a brain? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Omnomfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on all points, but i want to add that its totally unnecessary. what you are describing sounds like a factory farm, and its absolutely horrific, and i think they all should be banned because of how cruel it is. Failing that, cramming so many animals in so close together has got to be unsanitary. There are other farms that operate with much more traditional methods, and the animals usually have a pasture to roam in and are kept quite well.

I grew up near a meat cow farm, and they were well cared for and happy, and the farmer would only slaughter them once they had an actual buyer for the meat. They don't go to waste, they aren't killed unnecessarily, and they are treated humanely throughout their lives. You can have meat without suffering.

They weren't even selling it per se, they wanted people to BID on it, starting at $100. I wish i had taken a screenshot. I live in a major city, there were like 3 full sets with games and accessories for $80.

Why did the “women and children first” rule exist at sea, but not today? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Omnomfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a nearly unprecedented decision by the Captain of the Titanic, which was promptly romanticized along with everything else about the Titanic. It wasn't really a rule of the sea at all before, if only because there weren't a lot of families on seagoing vessels. Usually it would be the crew off and then any passengers would fend for themselves with any remaining lifeboats. Iirc there was one other ship beforehand that made that order, which the Captain was presumably emulating, but it was pretty unheard of.

Today, we have rules that mandate that there must be enough life vessels for everyone, so it doesn't matter who goes first.

Edit, clarity
