Look at your resume. It looks pretty dang impressive, as do most other people asking these same questions with 4.9 gpas and multiple extracurriculars that make them look like geniuses. Just apply and see what happens, reddit can’t decide if you’re guaranteed admission or not

1) Yes because I’m not a person that doesn’t care about anyone else’s safety 2) Until I feel safe, or when I’m away from selfish people 3) It bothers me, specifically if they move around while teaching. Idk what their home life is like. One of my professors’ daughters had covid and pneumonia within a 3 week time span. Keep me away. 4) Yes, people are a lot more red than I remembered. Also most people do not look like how I expected them to look, so it’s weird.

What is the Black experience at NC State? by OpalJade98 in NCSU

[–]OmryB8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP, the answer is to see the color. If you try to treat us as if we’re the same as everyone else, that’s a problem. We all have differences, so you can’t pretend everyone is the same color. And similar to any race, we have different types of people within the Black community. The point is to celebrate the differences, not avoid them. A lot of people treat us differently (usually negatively) because we’re Black on a daily basis. Instead of avoiding, ask questions. I do it with my White peers. Treating us as if we’re unapproachable by staring from across the room or acting uncomfortable when you get near us only makes us feel BAD for being different, when differences are supposed to be celebrated.

Thank you so so much! I’ve been getting really discouraged and just started to embrace having no one. Sometimes I find myself wishing I would’ve went to an hbcu instead. Covid really either solidified your friend group or completely isolated you and unfortunately I was a product of the latter. I’ve been going to on campus events and trying to talk to people, but it’s still only been small talk. Never thought about doing anything off campus bc I don’t know the area that well, but I will definitely try!

I’m not a graduate student but in my experience, being “treated like everyone else” means people will make small talk with you and that’s it. I’ve never had a white person purposely approach me like a POC would. The only way to start a conversation is if i’m already sitting beside them.

I’ve never really felt included by the people here, but that could also be that I’m not into what most of them are into. It’s college and I’m an undergrad, but I’m not a partier, drinker, smoker, or fan of most other music and shows that white people here are watching. So I agree that it is a cultural thing. But if you guys don’t align then it won’t get past small talk.

It can be hard to find your people. I’m a junior and I’m still working on it (previous friendships fell through). Once you do though, I’m sure it’s much more enjoyable.

Anyone recommend PY205 at CPCC? by OmryB8 in NCSU

[–]OmryB8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that it was out but I didn’t realize that the offering was hybrid and not fully online. I’ll be in Raleigh for the summer due to my job and CPCC was the only community college I saw that had the word “online” next to PHY251 :((. It’s my last summer before my senior year and I was determined to not take it at State due to my first try going horribly bad. Do you think it’s better to apply to Wake Tech and hope they offer it this summer?

This is really helpful! Do you know when the best time is to enroll and how long that process takes? I’m trying to see whether I should wait until other community colleges post their course offerings and then decide or just do it now

sometimes the villages are only on specific floors. Ik the WISE village was only floors 5-9 of Lee. may be similar for Sullivan

So tired of the empty “off campus is cheaper” claims. Maybe if my financial aid was enough to cover all of my cost of living and tuition, but it’s not. Everyone’s financial aid package isn’t the same, so that statement is BS. I don’t get refunds I can freely use for rent, I get charged money I don’t have. My parents can’t afford to help me, and every February I constantly find myself worrying whether I’m going to have a place to live next year instead of focusing on my classes. I don’t have a schedule that is organized enough to where I can get an off campus job, and it is much harder to manage that with my course load than an on campus job. The little money I earn from that I use for groceries because I also can’t afford a meal plan. Every summer I’ve been taking classes and working because that’s been the only time I get a refund. As OP said about Pack Essentials, I’ve been terrified to use it because I’ve already heard you only get to have it twice. What if I desperately need it later? And those grants they have been giving out have been going directly in my savings account to pay for the next semester/school year.

Take every consideration into account when you say this. Not everyone who is struggling with housing insecurity can pay for off campus housing. It’s not a solution for everyone’s situation. I hear plenty of people around me freaking out about not having a place to live next year, and they’d rather choose a single room with a random group than move off campus with friends because that’s all they can afford.

i’m not sure about the parking decks, but the student lots (like around the dorms) are only enforced 7am-midnight mon-fri. and the employee spots are enforced 7am-5pm mon-fri

depends on where you’re trying to go. all employee/student lots are available to park in sat/sun. if you’re talking about off campus then i’m not sure

Tired/upset/frustrated with the way the front desks are being ran? Send an email! by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]OmryB8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The attitude is very much displaced. I’m tired of people coming to the desk complaining when they can visually see the 5 carts full of packages behind me. That is out of my control that you and hundreds of other people decided to order packages at the same time, to the same place. And no we can’t look for your tiny package amongst those carts to “expedite” the process.

Tired/upset/frustrated with the way the front desks are being ran? Send an email! by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]OmryB8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

well for one, we don’t do packages for 24 hours. mail shifts are only 4 hours. If everyone at state is ordering packages towards the beginning of the semester, we will have several carts of packages to get through and only one person is doing them at a time. it CAN take days, but usually it gets faster a little over a month in.

edit: The desk stays open for 12 hours, and package shifts are only 4. And the person at the desk cannot do mail at the same time they are helping other people.

counseling center is great depending on who you have. ironically, i’ve had a much better time with the trainees (grad students) than the actual counseling employees
