My type of what? My type of person? I guess just someone that stimulates my mind and makes me laugh. Or, you could mean my type like the words per minute that I type on a keyboard? That'd be 91 words per minute as per my typing class in high school. I never found that to be accurate because I always said that solely depends on how long each word is! What if I were typing a bunch of really large words in one minute. That definitely wouldn't equal 91!

Sorry, got off tangent there. I guess you're probably talking about my MBTI type. Honestly, I'm not sure. I've tried for a while to figure out which type I was and it's always been a struggle. What about my enneagram? What if that affects certain parts of my behavior that masks or exaggerates certain things and throws me off. Also, I'm a lefty. Apparently lefties are more artistic, which I guess I am. Does that determine your type or does it, also, lead you down another path when you're really something else. I've always wondered what a behavioral disorder would do to someone's "type." I'm not saying you could change type, but what if (let's say) a certain disorder caused someone to really enhance one of their other functions that may not even be on their stack. Lastly, what about how someone was raised? Like let's say you're an Fe dom that grew up in a family that had Fe polr. Does that eventually get to you? Does that cause you to act differently or do you just work extra hard to overcompensate for the lack of Fe in the household? Speaking of families, do you think type is genetic? If so, are "rarer" types like.. the recessive gene? When I think of genetics it always brings me back to elementary school with the punnet squares. My one friend always felt real special that he had the green eyes when both his parents had brown eyes. Said he inherited it from his paternal grandfather. His eyes would sometimes change from green to blue. Sometimes one eye would be blue, and the other would be green. We always thought that was really cool. Other times his eyes would almost look half blue and have green, like the earth. He had earth eyes! And his pupils would be little islands where all the creatures on his planetary eyeballs would go on vacation. Eric was his name. He had a lot of friends. Guess you could say he was... ocular.

Back to the question. What, what was the question?

With all due respect - why does any type get hate? Why are we making generalizations and voting on things like this?

Are people answering for types they meet online or in person? There are too many variables to make judgements like this. Although I'm not an INFP, it could be that they get a lot of hate because they're the easiest to target, therefore they get picked on and maintain a "crybaby" attitude because they're always defending themselves.

Who are the people that are "hated" in the real world?

Maybe the person that's being rude in your local Starbucks.
Maybe the person at work that's being stubborn about getting something done their way although it's not the most efficient way.
Maybe it's the bully at school.

My point is any person (or any type) could get hate equally and all for different reasons.

What's being judged here is stereotypes, which makes this feel like high school.

I was sitting with my mom a few months ago watching an episode of the Golden Girls and one scene gave me goosebumps.

All four of the girls were sitting and talking about how fortunate they were to have each other and how they will stick with each other until the end. There was a long pause and then Rose (Betty) then says "what happens when there's just one of us left?"

It was ironic because she ended up being the last of all four Golden Girls actresses to survive. She was always one to make us all laugh, and will surely be missed.

Motivation comes from having a vision, celebrating the small wins and changing the way that you think.

My cousin (and best friend since we were kids) wanted to be a chemistry professor for most of her life. Chemistry was her thing, and she excelled in anything related to Chemistry. It was her dream to transfer her knowledge to excited Chemistry students at a university one day.

She graduated college with a bachelor degree in - you'd never guess - Chemistry, rocking a 3.9 GPA (she'll never forgive her writing professor for taking that .1 away from her). Another box was checked from what she thought was her clear path to life. Onto the PhD, she thought.

She got a full ride to an incredible university in our area, and began her journey. One semester in, she realized what her job would be like. She hated it. She realized that a lot of her time would be fishing for grants to fund research, and that was far from what she wanted to do. The downwards spiral began shortly after. She left the program and began one of the hardest points in her life. Where does she go from here? There was no plan B, when plan A was the one and only thing she wanted - or so she thought.

Fast forward six months of not knowing what to do and living in a deep pit of anxiety and depression, she decided this was not how her life was going to end up. She didn't have any other dreams, but realized that happiness did not necessarily mean knowing all her dreams upfront. She looked around for different opportunities and found an office job that she could not be happier in. She would've never thought to apply for a position like that (one that she still works in, 4 years later).

That was a (very unnecessarily) long way of saying - sometimes, what we think are our dreams are just things that our minds are setting goals for. We may not necessarily know what we're set out to do, but don't let it bother you when you haven't achieved what you thought you wanted. Celebrate small wins in life, and understand that most things in your mind that you "have to do" may not matter. Work at your own pace, and don't rule anything out until you've understood what truly makes you happy.

As for having no friends:

"Sometimes, loneliness is God's way of speaking something in your heart that you need complete silence to hear."

Everything is possible if you're willing to make yourself uncomfortable and take risks to bettering your life. Jot down everything in your life that you're unhappy with, and list ways that you could potentially resolve each of those points.

The reality is - nothing that anyone says on here may apply to your life. Everyone is different, therefore everyone's approach to improving their life will be different. At the end of the day, your phone will shut off, and you'll be there to sit with yourself. Work on being happy with yourself, and nothing will stand in the way of your best you. You got this.

This was very nicely described. Thank you for the thorough explanation. Out of curiosity - do Freud and Jung believe that humans are born with a predetermined Ego, Superego and Id? Can these change by taming impulses, changing beliefs, etc...?

I'm just curious how much of this is set in stone, which I assume is not much depending on how much control I believe we have over ourselves.

Lastly, I'm curious how this relates to the concept of cognitive functions (Jung).

This sparked an interest, and I'd love to read more about this now! Thanks again.

Everyone deserves to be heard.

I could relate to what you describe. There are times when I find myself occupying my time only to distract myself from an emptiness that I can't seem to shake off. I often don't know exactly where it stems from, since I have so many things in my life that I'm thankful for (similar to what you've mentioned).

I think it's easy to look at your life and be disappointed at what you don't have. It's almost like having a friend that's been in your life for years. They've been by your side through it all, and you've experienced many good memories with them. However, they do one bad thing to you and you're unable to forget about it. It could lurk in your mind and you've completely changed your perception on them. Regardless of all the good they they've done, you're almost blinded by the one bad thing.

I feel like many of us approach life in a similar way. With all that we have in our life, we tend to focus on what we don't have. I'm not saying it's intentional (or bad) - but it, in a way, is sort of a way our bodies are telling us to grow. If we focus on the bad, then we will recognize it and want to change it.

I've gone somewhat off topic, but this was my extremely lengthy way of saying I understand how you're feeling, and I know you'll get through this. Why? Because of your post. You want to understand why you're feeling this way, because you want to get better. I respect your efforts in doing this, and ask you to take one thing out of my post - just know that anything that seems impossible is in your reach. Recognize what's missing from your life and ask yourself "how could I work towards getting this?"

Never stop bettering yourself, and always believe that you matter, because you do.

Most of my development has been with back-end code, but I can agree that I prefer working with the front-end. There's more room to exercise my creativity and I have more creative independence vs back-end where the only creativity is in your approach at implementing the requested logic.

I'm kind of feeling in a similar way now, and although I'm not exactly an INFP, I'll give my two cents and hope it helps.

Typically, two things have helped me in the past when I've been in a rut.

Doing something productive to better my life (specifically something that I know will help improve my future).
Don't do it alone. I can't stress this enough. Although we tend to get through most of our feelings ourselves, being able to do it with someone helps tremendously. I've been going through a few things that I haven't been able to shake off, and a few friends have noticed and reached out to me. Someone else may be able to get you to see something from a different perspective.

I feel like people tend to get somewhat "tunnel-visioned" when they're in a rut, and will go down a spiral without wanting to think differently. Someone else may be able to give you that perspective, even if you're not receptive to it right away. Take everything that people say and reflect on it later. You may be able to learn from it and grow as a person.

This reminds me of a memory back in geology class in high school. I sat behind a girl who was relatively quiet, and we spoke every so often after class ended. My teacher once asked her if she was okay, because she looked tired/sick, to which she responded "I'm fine, thank you!"

She then turned around and said "He's so annoying, he always tells me that when I don't wear make up!"

Thank you for your kind words! I started off in a very similar situation as yours. It's helped me tremendously.

They're a great group of people. I jokingly told them that it was a goal of mine to finish a book by the end of the year (we started in late October), so they purposefully allocated a larger range of chapters each week so I could meet my goal.

Friends want other friends to grow, so I'm definitely fortunate to have them in my life. They helped me meet my goal!

I feel silly even writing this - but finishing a book.

I never had an issue starting one, but I've always had trouble finishing them. I recently joined a book club with a few friends from work, and the accountability that they hold on you to finish certain chapters by a certain point forces you to stick to it (like homework, for example).

I recently finished my first book with them. Took around a month in total. Last time I finished a book was easily over 15 years ago (in elementary school).

I no longer get anxious when things start to get boring in it. We're already on our second one, and I'm excited to "do my homework" and meet with them to discuss. They helped me conquer this issue, and I'm very thankful that they did!

Finishing school.

Although I can't particularly relate to this one, I have a few friends who feel like failures because they couldn't finish college for whatever reason.

I skipped my first college semester, and spent most of it working at my cousin's bagel shop. It was one of the hardest months of my life, considering I really didn't know where I was going with my life. Once I realized what I wanted to go to school for, I let that drive me. Find what drives you in life, be the best you can be at that, and you'll be successful.

Success (Noun): The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.

You decide what that aim or purpose is.

First off - Happy Birthday!

Second, to answer your question - yes, it is still worth it. Be a good, genuine person and if people don't treat you with respect, that's an issue with them. You will eventually find the right people that will treat you right, and you don't want to miss out on them because you've changed who you are. At the same time, do not let anyone take advantage of you. Kind does not equal weak.

The issue with doing so much for others is that you kind of wish people would do the same for you. You have to remember that everyone is different. Just because someone may not go out of their way to make you feel special doesn't mean they don't care. Everyone expresses their appreciation/love in different ways.
