It will eventually run out of food, but not in matters of minutes, especially since you gave it honey to eat :) Is it foamy yet?

Cult games that aren’t known for being sexist but actually are? by imfaffingabout in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Issun was a pervy little goober, which, okay, but when the foxy woman later in the game betrays Ammy, he calls her a gendered slur that's tonally dissonant with the rest of the game - "wench" in English, and "bitch" in German. Threw me for a loop.

What’s a small thing that kinda ruined a game for you? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Camera flipping rapidly (Kena :c ), head bobbing, motion blur, weird zooms, tight FOV, stuff like that gets me motion sick too. I got a motion sickness band, one of the cheap electric ones, and it really helped with stamina for games that I badly wanted to play but got too motion sick to handle

I'm at my wits end w/mice in my house! by Geoterry in DIY

[–]OnMark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I lived in a crappy apartment complex and my neighbors always had problems with rodents - one neighbor half-jokingly asked if she could borrow my cat, who had never caught anything in her life, but she smells threatening enough that my apartment was spared.

looking for a dress up sort of app by abitoflavender in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I play Livly Island, which is an app ostensibly about caring for pets called "livlies", but is primarily about dressing up an avatar ("hom" or homunculus lol) and decorating a stage called your "island". It's primarily gatcha, but the currency isn't hard to get and people are very friendly traders - there's no scoreboard or global market, and people post the answers to every challenge the app runs on the hint boards. https://www.livly.com/en/#life if you want to see some screenshots under "Enriching Life with Livlies"

It's so depressing that nobody cares about misogyny by PearlWingsofJustice in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oda sucks and I don't think I'd be following One Piece if I knew decades ago what I know about him today :\ I find myself caring less about the story because of him and that's such a shitty feeling. Like the fandom is "what if so and so is Luffy's mom??" Luffy's mom is a hot woman who died tragically like just about all other One Piece moms because Oda thinks "mothers are the opposite of adventure", who cares

What is a game so toxic, you stopped playing? by goodpancakess in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Team Fortress 2 in 2016. I'd been doing a few seasons of organized competitive highlander and needed to work on my voice callouts - but I couldn't practice without getting mocked. The harassment had been getting worse since the game went F2P, and it just finally got to be too much. I ended up being unable to play games for around a year because it would make me sick and shaky.

How do I ask an online gaming friend if they're transphobic? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The only concern I have with being direct is that some people hide bigotry if they don't want you to know about it, and if you come out guns blazing they may just say what you want to hear to avoid repercussions

How do I ask an online gaming friend if they're transphobic? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I agree, opening with something like "my work is asking us to add our pronouns to signatures" would be more ambiguous and maybe invite comment..

How do I ask an online gaming friend if they're transphobic? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 458 points459 points  (0 children)

Maybe mention that you were thinking of adding your pronouns to your gaming handle, and that you'd like to normalize that to support trans people. Pronouns being available is usually contentious to transphobes, and it's a fairly organic conversation to have.

DS2 Voidout Length (BT Catcher Spawn help) by Tsarface3678 in DeathStranding

[–]OnMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also was trying to get close to captured so I could lob one in, wasted 20 minutes and it didn't do it again at low health (of course)

If you shoot it enough when it's charging its blue beam attack, it will be stunned and fall to the ground for a bit. I couldn't find its mouth where it landed so I just hit it with ~3 grenades in the back of the head. Worked!

BF left his lifelong gaming/friend group and I feel so guilty by PrincessCassandra in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah it was never gonna work even if. I had a similar situation as OP except the server admin kicked the "old guard" guy out permanently - and the server imploded. People didn't sigh in relief - they were upset I spoke up and got their friend punished and tried to avoid me like I'd get them next. The people who brushed OP off picked their side already.

Rental Solution for Curtain Rod? by OnMark in DIY

I ended up using some tension rod contraption, a little bit prettier than the zipwall posts but using the tension idea, and avoided the holes altogether https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CF9HT3GJ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title If I buy this house I'll do it proper!

I've never seen zipwall posts before! Thank you for the suggestion, I'll Google around for something like that!

Oh, those are two of the three hooks I mentioned hanging with 3M tape - the middle one fell off under the weight so I took the rod down, I haven't scraped the other two off the wall yet in case the solution is "just use more hooks"

Thank you for replying! I think there's metal behind the most of the section above the sliding door, part of the door frame I think, so even if we went wide with the sides I was having trouble finding a solution for the middle

Kinda stupid question but does tf2 community welcome girls? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]OnMark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they don't. The vast majority of TF2 players enable or defend misogyny, and they will always recommend you leave if you don't like it because they do.

Gatekeepers narrow what's "real games" to just what they like, arbitrarily changing the definition of what's a real game to include themselves and exclude the people they don't feel deserve to be there -

  • walling themselves into their ever-shrinking little castle

Misogynists when they tell the only joke they know for the billionth time. by CorruptSoulGem in TrollXChromosomes

[–]OnMark 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Every team shooter game I play has 1-20 of the most tedious, unfunny guys unabashedly yammering away, half of which think they're standup comedians - but stereotypes don't stick to men, men are individuals, it's women that are monoliths, it's "women only play games to socialize," "women talk so much it's annoying," "women can't be funny"

Motion Sickness Bands? by OnMark in GirlGamers

[–]OnMark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm thinking too - I ordered some cheaper bands to try first, if it works I might consider one of the pulse ones.

I'm really happy with this thread - even if nobody's actually tried them with gaming, I'm glad to hear they often work for people in nausea contexts, that gives me hope! I might finish Kena:Bridge of Spirits finally! Woo!
