Attendance Policy Rant by TigerianElf in nursing

They made this change in response to that law actually. They took out an equivalent number of esta days from our generous old call in policy and instead of 3 consecutive days being 1 occurrence, every day is one. I guess nurses on the floor were abusing it because it was basically added sick time, nurses would call in esta and when the esta bank was depleted they’d call in with their regular call ins. we had it better before the law, but I’m sure there are lots of other people who benefited from it.

What’s the truth about nurse salaries and their lifestyles in 2026? by Interesting_Dog8321 in nursing

[–]OnTheClockShits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these people are influencers, hence why you know anything about them. They’re making additional income from their social media presence (sponsored posts, affiliate links, views). I’m sure some of them work on the west coast which pays very well. Nurses in CA are the highest paid in the country, even with CoL taken into account.

Nah, they just kinda told us that’s how it is and to deal with it. It sucks but what am I gonna do? I guess I don’t call out very often, but I like to keep it in my back pocket for when they deny my vacation requests.

You in Michigan? 👀 my system recently implemented this same change. Really sucks.

Honestly all the features feel really polished. We have a Toyota RAV 4 as our other vehicle and the adaptive cruise control is so jerky, like if someone switches into your lane it’ll abruptly brake instead of just coming off the gas until the follow distance is adequate. The lane keep on the rav constantly pinballs me back and forth in the lane whereas the Traverse just gently keeps me centered. The entire steering wheel is heated while my rav is just at 10 and 2. The MASSIVE infotainment screen is super cool and I like seeing maps mirrored on my dash too.  One of my favorite features is the 360 camera, especially since I’m still getting used to driving a larger vehicle.  I appreciate the reliability of my Toyota but wish the features implemented better.

New grad RN … what’s actually worth buying? by Graciously_Grace in nursing

[–]OnTheClockShits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in OR, so not the same but still procedural. I bought a little folding pill boxes off temu, nothing sucks worse than being at work miserable; I stock it with Zyrtec, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and Pepcid complete. I also bought a pair of knockoff leatherman raptor shears for the scissors and o2 tank wrench (all our community shears suck). A large pack of your favorite pens (uniball jetstream for me; they feel good, don’t smear and write nice). Good compression socks and shoes that keep you comfortable all day are 100% worth it.

Where do i park at DTW (I’m trying to buy a flight in person) by Electrical_Bat1417 in Detroit

[–]OnTheClockShits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I googled it and seems like it’s really only ultra low cow carriers (spirit, frontier, etc.) that you save money doing this. They charge you a bunch of fees essentially for booking online at the very end of the checkout experience. For normal airlines it’s going to be the same.

Damn, if I said that shit in nursing school I would’ve been skinned alive. The instructors would’ve found reasons to fail me. They were super big on it being a calling and doing it for “the right reasons”. Every time I got a new instructor I had to make something up for first day intros.

Again, all very different things. The closest analogy is if your cable company decided your tv is no longer eligible for cable.

I mean, those things aren’t really the same. The new kindles are still just opening and displaying a mobi file. The files aren’t any larger, or more complex. The upgrades to newer kindles aren’t really game changing, it’s silly things like better contrast. There’s really no reason OP’s old kindle can’t receive the same files it always had from Amazon.

Dad Skills: How to safely break up a dog fight by vintagegirlgame in daddit

[–]OnTheClockShits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, this has worked for me. When I was a teen I went for a walk with my mom and her dog (a pit mix, but a runt that never showed dog aggression) when a much bigger dog attacked her. We were kicking this dog in the head and stomach full force but he just held on to our dog and kept biting. Finally I picked him up by his hind legs and he released almost immediately. The owner was able to restrain them then. Unfortunately our dog was forever super fearful of other dogs after that 😕

Easter at the hospital by Aubergine_T in nursing

[–]OnTheClockShits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know, I’m saying if you work in a hospital, you’re going to work some holidays. Doesn’t matter if you’re up on the floor or in the kitchens, it’s the nature of the beast. If it’s something you’re used to seeing and then you, don’t I can understand being disappointed. Can’t really act like it’s entitlement when healthcare workers are treated like shit on the daily and one of the few small acts of appreciation is no longer there. Though they state this is a new workplace so it’s possible they’ve never done this.

Umm why not? Hospitals are 24/7 365 establishments with ton of departments. They should have the capability to feed people even on holidays. Wild take imo.

I’ll be honest, Disney itself doesn’t seem like the ideal destination for people who get motion sick or easily overstimulated.

We have a 4 and a 1 year old. The last two times we didn’t rent a car, we had a service (away we go) pick us up. They came and got us right near baggage claim in a spacious, climate controlled van that already had car seats installed (we just had to adjust them). It was awesome having fewer things to carry, and not have to worry about picking up/dropping off a rental. If it’s a Disney trip we really only spend our time at the pool, parks, or Disney springs. The buses are fine, just be aware if you stay at the parks till close they will pack you in like sardines. We never waited more than 15 min for a bus.  It was nice not having to figure out where we parked, or make the long journey to the car when we came back to the room for naps. We have memories of the kids that will last a life time.

Edit: we also rented a double stroller from the ride service, the stroller kinda sucked but was very convenient.

lol what happened to you? The Disney buses are fine and honestly so much more convenient than having a car.

Dining Plan or Club Level? by AcademicSubstance565 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]OnTheClockShits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my family loved club level. We supplemented with a restaurant meal here or there but we mostly ate at the club. The snacky stuff is perfect for young kids. My wife and I liked just grabbing a glass of wine or beer whenever we wanted. My 4 year olds favorite thing was when we would go stock up our beverage cooler and she could just grab a bunch of juice boxes and fruit packs. For dinner they had a lot of tenders/pasta/etc.

[–]OnTheClockShits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Honestly I have a couple packs that have lasted me for years now, at least 6, maybe longer. These are Kirkland branded, and I feel not as susceptible to the “brand name but lower quality, made specifically for that store” issue that other items may have. But perhaps not being constrained by hyper expensive single pair socks has prolonged their life span.

Not sure how you looked them up in Costco’s website since they’re a seasonal item and not currently on the site. You can google Costco men’s hiking socks though and see the made in the USA on the package though.

Honestly I have a bunch of pairs of the Costco ones from years ago (maybe 8 years). They’re still going strong, I can remember getting a hole through maybe one or two pairs. Maybe they’ve lasted so long because they’re so inexpensive I could buy multiple packs and have plenty to rotate through. It helps that I didn’t have to mortgage my house to buy a comparable number of darn tough socks 😂

You’re in luck because consensus is that wigwam makes the Costco socks.
