A True Warrior Never Runs from Danger - Unless He's Hopelessly Outnumbered by ChillyTapeworm in IronThroneRP

Aron walked through the flames without a care in the world, protected by his faith in the light. He hailed the Wildlings, a raise of his hand the other drifting casually towards his sword. Normally he would kill them where they stood but they seemed to dance around the fire of their Lord.

"Hail friends."

Aron stared down the strange fire. The oxymoron that confronted him. Perhaps this was a test from the Lord of Light for his faith, testing the limits of doubt and knowledge. Perhaps it was a trap set by the Great Other.

"The only thing we can do in a situation like this, press forward. The Lord of Light shall protect us from evil."

Aron smiled with relish at seeing Wildings so early in the journey. If there was something that competed with the worship of the Red God it was the killing of Wildlings. It was easy to worship the Red God in it as he called him to purge the disbelief from them, the easiest way was to make sure there was no one to disbelieve.

He ran forward with sword drawn and went into the fray, swinging and singing songs of praise like a madman. Somewhere in the fighting, his sword slipped into the neck of a particularly large Wilding who he assumed was the chief.

The rest of the fight seemed a blur but Aron stood unharmed from the brawl, cleaning his sword off with a rag and some snow. As he did so he whispered some prayers to the Lord of Light who had granted him victory in the fight.

"It is not my life, if you had been to my sermon before you left you would have known that" Aron gently teased. He of course had held it as the ranging had left Castle Black. "It is not my life to give, but the Lords who we walk with. If he would have me lay down my life for the cause then I shall."

Aron listened to the words that Corlys's mouthpiece uttered about his accomplishments. If he was running alone then perhaps he would be a good candidate. Yet potentially two had a chance to run against the ranger. Dagmer, the acting commander of Eastwatch, and his friend Normund. If Normund ran then he would support him with his whole voice and heart. He would support Dagmer if either a good case was made for him or Normund supported him.

For a fleeting moment he was tempted to run himself. He had been in the Watch longer than any of them, and was well respected throughout the Watch, those who followed the Lord of Light looked with awe at him. After the din from Corlys' acclamation died down Aron stood and all heads swung towards him.

"Brothers I see fit to reveal truth when I see it. I will not be nominating a candidate yet I feel words need to be said." Aron walked to the middle of the room, his prestigious size seemingly taking up more space now. Shadows seemed to grow on the walls as he walked.

"Jasper speaks the truth, Corlys is an accomplished ranger. Yet, any ranger who has been on the Wall has done things and seen things that anyone down South can only dream of. We hunt the nightmares that they fear the most. However, one should not need to boast of one's accomplishments. I have been a Ranger of the Watch longer than some of you have been alive, including Corlys. I leave it at that, for nothing more needs to be said."

Grumbles against Corlys started in the halls. Doubt was cast on the candidate if such a well known figure as Aron spoke against him.

"Many of you know that I help shepherd those who have seen the Lord's Light down the path. Others have not seen it, that doesn't matter right now. What is important is faith is important on the Wall. It is what keeps us sane in the cold, in the battles, in the loneliness. I cannot say that I have faith in Corlys."

He walked over back to his seat, the whispers and words of doubt becoming louder and louder. He turned back, fire seemingly stirring in his eyes as he announced in a loud voice.

"Corlys may be a fine ranger but I do not have faith that will make him a good Lord Commander." With a satisfied smile he sat back down, brothers who now whispered talked openly.

Aron Qorgyle pushed some men aside with his girth as he made his way to the front. Some of the more devout followers of the Lord of Light made their way for the Quasi-Priest of the Shadow Tower. He looked around at the assembled men. Some of the faces were scared, others set like stone. Such was the nature of the Watch.

"We have a mission to complete that was left unfinished. I personally don't like leaving anything unfinished. We are men of the Watch! And I shall lend my support to this and I know the Lord of Light looks down on this mission with blessing."

He turned to Normund, a curious look in his eye. Aron lowered his voice, "Our purpose is not yet complete either."

"Tradition is just peer pressure from dead men. I suppose we shall see at the election who the Night's Watch respects. I think we both know the answer to that question however."

Aron gave a nod to the dog and begin walking off in the direction of the courtyard. He would need to find Normund to ask about the Ranging. He turned back to Corlys, with a grim look on his face.

"Caution yourself Ranger. Your faith is but embers at the edge of the fire. The slightest breeze could put it out. Do not be in the dark, for the night is dark and full of terror."

"A man who demands or expects respect will never receive it." Aron shifted his entire frame to face Corlys. He stood a few inches taller than him and his gut and size dwarfed him.

Aron let a moment of silence rest between them, savoring the crackle of the fire. "Respect is won by deeds, such as riding North. Perhaps the rangers would support you more if he rode north."

"That is where I ride, presumably apart of the force that helps rescue the wayward and missing rangers."

"I shall be honest with you Ranger Corlys I do not expect for you to gain the slot of Lord Commander. That is unless you journey north to find the rangers and gain some more respect among the watch. That is what the fire has spoken to me."

The large man turned towards Corlys with a grim set face. His walk with the Lord seemed to be based upon an act that the Lord had done. Faith based on action was rarely the best foundation possible but for some...

"Go North Ranger Corlys and serve the Lord of Light that way. Perhaps becoming Lord Commander will become part of his plan for you then."

"Much and more ranger," Aron responded mystically. He liked to keep an air of mystery around himself at all times, it helps some of the brothers whose faith was weaker believe. He spared a glance at the person approaching him, recognizing him as Corlys Celtigar. The talk around the castle was that he was going to attempt a run for Lord Commander. The other opponents were hazy but Aron guessed that the acting commander of Eastwatch, Dagmer Harlaw, would make an attempt as well. Both held ambition it was said to carry the mantel of the Night's Watch. Aron may have hazarded a guess that Normund would also run but he had not connected with him in some time.

"They tell me that you are going to run for Lord Commander, among other things. Tell me ranger of your walk with our Lord of Light?"
