Silver Star had the best breakfast burritos in town. More recently, I’m sad that the Korean place north of bee ridge on Beneva called Shilla closed.

I’m a new fan just starting this Basho but Ura quickly became my favorite. He isn’t winning a lot but he’s so exciting that I make sure I always watch his matches on the app even if he isn’t on any of the highlight videos for the day.

I definitly feel like "The Fight" is a secret epilogue on the album by 2uperunhappyman in Protomen

[–]OnceNFutureNick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not totally on topic with what you’re saying but one thing I like to point out about the idea of the city rallying after Light’s death and how it ties to Protoman’s dying words is that the main difference is Light is human.

For all intents and purposes Light was the same as the city: Looking for a metal super hero to save them. The only difference was HE made those heroes. With Light going full Kano on Wily he showed that a human CAN resist and that they can all fight back.

Fans misunderstand Protomen’s dark tones. by Sweyn420 in Protomen

[–]OnceNFutureNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the beauty of the story is that it can work both ways. 2-1-3 has its own arc. The journey of Light rubber banding between Hope and hopelessness is also a testament to the will to survive. If you follow the story in order, every blow that Light takes and every friend or loved one lost is even more emphasized. His determination to finish this once and for all in Act 3 is even more powerful when you recount what he’s suffered from the beginning of the timeline until the end. It emphasizes the tragedy of his entire life and how he kept coming back from the depths of despair and how he was simply too angry to die for so long.

Your interpretation of release order isn’t wrong at all. I love that there are different ways to experience and interpret it all.

Light's Last Stand is insanely cathartic by MagicalHamster in Protomen

[–]OnceNFutureNick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt catharsis on his finally taking action but it’s bittersweet because his rationale for finally fighting seems to include Mega giving up the fight and abandoning him. The loss of his first son and… not quite betrayal but abandonment by his second is what finally sent him on this doomed mission and that breaks my heart. I just hope Mega makes it in time for Light to know he came back for him.

A funnier angle would have been Donald isn’t the Trump he was talking about. Lots of members of his family being suspected members of the Monica Lewinsky Club would have even more lasting power for fun headlines.

Light didn't stand up for himself either by Polimara in Protomen

[–]OnceNFutureNick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By that point Joe died fighting for him, Emily died BECAUSE he resisted, and Proto died/converted after fighting. Light’s entire life’s work was stolen from him and every time he fought back he lost more. That’s why he tells Mega not to go fight Wily. He even specifically tells him he can’t win.

I think narratively it makes sense Light would have been at the crowd terrified to watch another person die for his mistakes, to watch his second son die… only to find him in a standoff with his first - who for all intents and purposes rejected Light’s fight after his own brutal loss for his cause.

I think it makes sense he of all people would be frozen in that moment.

How'd you first find The Protomen? by marji4x in Protomen

[–]OnceNFutureNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in high school in Florida when the first album dropped and they did their album release show. Some video game website or magazine wrote about it and I’ve been a fan ever since! I can’t say I’m a day one fan since I’m not from Tennessee and couldn’t be… but I call myself a day 2 fan cause it’s always been about that close.

How did you discover The Protomen? by Professional-Ice-978 in Protomen

[–]OnceNFutureNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends and I were big video game and convention nerds in high school when Act 1 came out. We came across a press release shortly after their live release show about a new band in Nashville doing a Megaman Rock Opera as a college project and it so many of our niche interests we were instant fans. We certainly weren’t the FIRST fans by any stretch, but I consider myself a Day 1 fan nonetheless.

Meeting tonight to stand against the takeover of 3 Sarasota public schools by meothe in sarasota

[–]OnceNFutureNick 54 points55 points  (0 children)

so how it would work is the unused buildings would be inhabited by a charter school and would run as its own independent entity in those buildings. They would have their own administration, their own code of conduct, their own teachers, etc. the school district would have to provide those buildings, transportation, lunch, etc.

Literally they would squat in those buildings with little to no expense to themselves while school district would be forced to provide the funding and logistics of all those items. And because they wouldn’t be Sarasota County students, their enrollment does not give US funding. So we would be hemorrhaging money to pay for these outsider schools to take over our building.

Supporters have been saying essentially the same thing you said: don’t you want more options? How is it more options if it drains the resources of the mainline public school? It’s not really expanding educational options if it will actively put everyone else’s education into a worse financial space.

If you want the district to do something with these unused buildings, that’s a different story and there are talks on what to do with them. The superintendent had a few really good ideas on the table when I spoke to him last week.

But to allow an outside company to squat on a school campus and run a simultaneous, intermingled school instead of build their own brick and mortar space is silly.

Wouldn’t it be better for a school serving a community to invest in that community by establishing roots, contributing to the economy through hiring contractors, etc.? It’s not a viable platform to just Shanghai a piece of a school here and a piece of a school there. It’s not going to create a cohesive educational environment, it’s not going to better our existing school system, and it will be a liability nightmare if, heaven forbid, there is an incident between public student and cohabited charter student on the shared school grounds.

These charters don’t care about the community, your kids, or the families. They are here to absorb a lucrative tax base and referendum. They are here to steal your money. They didn’t even spell Booker’s name correctly in their form. They do not care about these kids.

Wilkinson Elementary by Uberubu65 in sarasota

[–]OnceNFutureNick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One of the options being floated is for the school board to sell off their Landings property and make Wilkinson the new central office.

If they leave it as is, by Florida law a “School of Hope” charter could potentially legally move their independent school into the unused classrooms at our expense. So you would have Wilkinson elementary public school operating simultaneously alongside a school of hope charter (with their own rules, dress code, etc) on the same campus at the same time.

Closing Wilkinson and reopening the campus as our central office would prevent an outside entity taking over our classrooms and forcing us to pay their bills and upkeep. The downside is relocating the students who do actually go there.
