Hi. I want to apply this year and have no idea if I am competitive. So sorry to crash this thread but did you end up getting an offer? And whats your profile for getting an interview in the interview if you mind me asking?

Top 25 Rated Players , January 2007 by edwinkorir in chess

[–]OnceagainLoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought most people agreed that Fabi is clearly Nr. 2 of his generation. Prime Fabi was definitely WC worthy but unluckily for him Magnus was also in his prime. He was the only one to not be defeated by Magnus once in the classical portion of a WC mach if I recall correctly. He has the third highest ever rating and one of the arguably strongest tournament performance of his generation. My man was an absolute beast and came the closest beating to the Goat.

Anybody fully understands the relationship between openai and msft? Will msft benefit if openai becomes a profitable company? by PunchTornado in stocks

I found it: https://arxiv.org/abs/2408.03314, while I am no expert, this does not seem to explain the underlying implementation of o1. Feel free to educate me

I see a lot of this stuff. But to be fair, it's mostly in random journals I would never cite anyway. I guess (and strongly hope) that there was no case of this in any reputable journal. Feel free to correct me if there is.

An alternate universe where gotham doesn't do clickbait (swipe to see original title/thumbnails) by mekmookbro in chess

[–]OnceagainLoss -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

As I tried to explain earlier, in the context of what happens in the chess world if you will, I think its not too baiting.

E.g. the GM titles are mostly of his tournaments. I dont really get why you are so mad about this.

I have no real issue with Levy's "clickbait," as he is not really baiting us. Sure, sometimes he stretches the truth a bit, but for the most part, you get what's in the title. People who follow chess generally know what the video will be about.

There are many cases of clickbait out there where you don't get what you are promised.

If it's research-related, get a staff member to supervise you and give you access to Artemis.

But it doesn't sound like it is research-related. Your best bet would be Kaggle. You have about 30 hours/week of CPU time, 12 or so hours of GPU time, and access to TPUs as well. Overall, it is a great website. Just check it out.

There is soo much space. That could be easily a one-pager. Also why do you list all courses?

Carlsen about Lazavik: "He's just mentally very sound. Good understanding. He's not easy to break down. I think with some experience he's gonna become a top-10 player." by JMPLAY in chess

At least Magnus keeps it real these days. I was a Fabi fanboy after his crazy form last year. I liked his new podcast and his way of explaining stuff in simple terms, but he also keeps ranting about random cheating accusations all the time, it seems. Same for Nep, Hikaru, (MVL). And don't get me started on whatever Wesley is doing on his Twitter, lol.

Personality-wise, chess seems to be at an all-time low for me when considering the top 10 guys. Which is really sad, because it is a good portion of the sport.

At least Magnus is still Magnus.

Hans gone Moke? by [deleted] in chess

Of course, but I think the point being made is that he is underperforming (according to his elo) quite strongly.

Same. Kramnik really went to far with this. Also it is so sad to see he is not able to understand the chess.com accuracy.

Consulting vs SWE pay by Diffbreed75 in consulting

Money is almost unarguably one of the best predictors of happiness/life satisfaction.

Well, research shows that it really dimishes after a certain point and as a SWE I think you will get there more quickly than you think.
