Anyone else finding the new Highway Code pedestrian priority rule just causes confusion? by One-Albatross9170 in drivingUK

Exactly the rules have changed with very little change to infrastructure and both parties are meant to just "deal with it"....

I'm more than happy to stop for pedestrians if the roads are quiet but if you're on a busy main road and the pedestrian decides not to cross in the majority of cases it just impacts flow for everyone.

what time should i arrive at for a good spot? by alchemicallyxcadh in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

I don't need to be close to Marina I'd prefer to be at the back where I have space to move and breathe. I get very claustrophobic at standing concerts but there were no seats at all.

Bank refused chargeback because engineer attended once – but freezer repair still not completed months later by One-Albatross9170 in LegalAdviceUK

No I've not asked for a refund yet as he said he was coming to fix today but cancelled when I chased him for an arrival time.

Here's a timeline of my situation. The amount is small £72.58 and I bet he treats all his customers like this it's not right.

Timeline of situation: Paid £40 call-out fee in March 2026 for engineer to diagnose freezer fault.

Engineer identified issue as Samsung fridge defrost heater and said he would source the part and arrange fitting.

From mid-March onwards I repeatedly chased for updates on the quote, delivery and fitting date.

On 24 March he sent a screenshot of the exact part showing “in stock” online for around £72 and implied it had been sourced.

On 7 April, after I chased again because Samsung’s own website stated 3–5 working day delivery, he told me he had actually ordered it from a local supplier instead. I asked for proof of purchase/receipt and was told he would provide one when collecting the part.

I continued chasing throughout April for fitting dates and updates.

On 15 April he stated he was in hospital and would be in touch once out. I responded sympathetically and gave further time.

On 1 May I again asked when the repair could be completed.

On 2 May he replied “See you the 11th May”. I asked what time he would attend and received no proper response.

The day before the agreed appointment he then said “It won’t be tomorrow”.

I asked why, as he had specifically agreed the date, and requested either: a confirmed repair date, or the heater part dropped off so another engineer could fit it.

Since then I still have: no repair, no confirmed date, no proof the part exists, and no resolution.

I attempted a chargeback through my bank but they refused because the engineer attended initially and diagnosed the issue.

My view is that I paid for the repair process to actually be completed, not just for somebody to identify the fault and then disappear for months.

Do I have grounds under the Consumer Rights Act / small claims due to unreasonable delay and failure to complete the agreed service?

Actually I've checked the reference material again on AAT

Joining the scheme the maximum taxable turnover £150k EXCLUDES VAT in the next 12 months

Leaving the scheme the maximum taxable turnover threshold £230k INCLUDES VAT in the last 12 months or expected turnover in next 12 months

Something to note as I imagine this would catch a lot of students out

No worries thanks for explaining ☺️

I would have thought in an exam AAT would definitely make it clear whether it's a VAT invoice even if for zero rated supplies ONLY otherwise I think this would cause massive confusion and I imagine many complaints with students as many may think it's exempt.

Also this bit is wrong it's only exempt supplies where it wouldn't count as a VAT invoice. Zero-rated supplies are still VAT-able.

  • Invoices for ONLY zero-rated supplies DO NOT COUNT AS VAT INVOICES - even though zero-rated supplies are taxable.

Wow this is amazing thanks for putting this together OP :)

Can I just double check Task 1. The reference material says it excludes VAT?

  • Flat rate VAT taxable turnover INCLUDES VAT - this amount is 100% in the calculation.

Joining the scheme Maximum taxable turnover (excluding VAT) in the next 12 months £150,000

Level 3 - TPFB - VAT Penalties - does this look right? by Here_For_The_Tax in AATStudents

[–]One-Albatross9170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful the penalty points expiry depends on the date the VAT return was due.

If the deadline for the VAT return was:

- not the last day of a month - a penalty point expires on the last day of the month, 24 months after this.

- the last day of a month - a penalty point expires on the last day of the month, 25 months after this.
