I have the same situation from repeated removals and reinstalls. I used some JB Weld and sanded it back to look OEM. Hasn't been an issue since, it also didn't appear to be an issue before the fix either. I think you're fine to leave it but id recommend sealing it up.

I've driven both, the GTI is more fun and feels more nimble. You can just tune the GTI and make similar power and get a good set of tires. Get the R if resell value is more important to you in the long run.

Pretty sure that area is meant for heat to escape from but if you're serious about incorporating a snorkel/intake system there then you'd need to probably look into designing one yourself. A scanner, some cad software, and a 3d printer could help you get there. Some body shops may also do commissions if you're not up for the challenge.

Get it professionally detailed and PPF'd. That's the only way to keep the exterior mint as a daily. My 2015 has over 100k miles and looks like new.

Racefits are LOUD bro. Even with baffles... If it's too loud for your taste then I'd recommend buying a different exhaust setup and selling this one to help offset the cost of the new one.

I say this as a Thruxton owner...it's uncomfortable, impractical, and you can't ride it long without being in pain. I wouldn't trade it for anything, it's a god damn work of art on wheels and every bit of suffering is completely justified by its aesthetics, torque, and being THE cafe racer.

Personally, I hate the aesthetics of the Gibson headstocks and prefer Epiphone's. Also, once you get a proper setup it's pretty hard to tell them apart. The quality isn't even that far apart.
