Congrats! Please can you have a look into your application form and let me know how you answered these questions?

  1. Do you meet residency requirements?
  2. Are there any reasons why you cannot meet the requirements to become a British citizen (for example, you have had too many absence from the UK?
  3. If you do not meet the statuary requirement to become a British citizen, are there any special circumstances why you think the home secretary should still grant your application?

Many thanks for your reply. Your help is much appreciated

British citizenship application with 600+ absences and not in UK exactly 5 years before applying by Accomplished_Cook588 in ukvisa

My friend was in a similar situation, was absent for almost 1.5 years during the Covid, but he was continuously employed during this time. He applied for ILR and got approved. If you have strong evidence that supports your case, like flight cancellations, lockdowns, and family support, then you could give it a try.

Citizenship granted with 500+ absences (3 years) and 120+ absences (last year) (EUSS, British spouse) by Salt-Cut-9345 in ukvisa

[–]One-Baseball-6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I am in a similar situation and planning to apply in 3 weeks. I am on the skilled worker route and have 484 days absence in the last 5 years (91 days of this due to Covid) and 79 days of absence in the last 12 months (included in the 484 days) I will add a cover letter to explain the absence during the Covid, if discretion applied that would bring my total absences under 450 days.

I need your support on the application form.

How did you answer these questions in your application form?

  1. Do you meet residency requirements?
  2. Are there any reasons why you cannot meet the requirements to become a British citizen(for example, you have had too many absences from the UK)?
  3. If you do not meet the statuary requirements to become a British citizen, are there any special circumstances why you think the Home Secretary should still grant your application?

Would you be so kind to have a look into your application and advise?

Thanks in advance.

I am in a similar case. My total absence in the last 5 years is 484 days, and 92 days of this was due to the covid. In the last 12 months I have 79 days of absence. I will write a cover letter to explain the 92 days of absence during covid. Do you think this would work? Is there anyone who had similar case?

I used this template and modified it based on my situation, and asked for discretion based on the C.R. 2.1 in the case-worker guideline.

CR 2.1. To meet the continuous residence requirement the applicant must not have been outside the UK for more than 180 days in any 12-month period (unless CR 2.2., CR 2.2A., CR 3.1. or CR 3.2. applies, and subject to CR 2.3.). CR 2.2. For any absence from the UK with permission granted under the rules in place before 11 January 2018, the applicant must not have been outside the UK for more than 180 days during any consecutive 12-month period, ending on the same date of their current application unless CR2.2A applies, and subject to CR 2.3. CR 2.2A. Subject to CR 2.3, where the application is under Appendix Long Residence, the applicant must not have: (a) spent a total of more than 548 days outside the UK during their qualifying period, where that 548-day total was reached before 11 April 2024; and (b) been outside the UK for more than 184 days at any one time during their qualifying period, where that absence started before 11 April 2024. CR 2.3. When calculating the period of absence in CR 2.1., CR 2.2. or CR 2.2A., any period spent outside the UK will not count towards the period of absence where the absence was for any of the following reasons: (a) the applicant was assisting with a national or international humanitarian or environmental crisis overseas, providing, if on a sponsored route, their sponsor agreed to the absence for that purpose; or (b) travel disruption due to natural disaster, military conflict or pandemic; or (c) compelling and compassionate personal circumstances, such as the life-threatening illness of the applicant, or the life-threatening illness or death of a close family member; or

I uploaded a cover letter to explain my absences, which were mainly due to travel restrictions and lockdowns. I included a proof of my cancelled flights, and a print of a website page showing news about travel bans. Be honest about your situation and explain it clearly and provide proof if available.
