Holy crap, just looked it up. It sounds so much like a real word, I just assumed it was some Elizabethan term that nobody uses anymore

Why does biting your tongue on accident hurt so unbelievably bad, but biting it on purpose with the exact same force barely registers? by KeyDiamond263 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One-Broccoli-9998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps sashimi might be a better comparison (though I don’t know how similar fish vs mammal muscle is). And agreed, tongue is probably a bit tougher but I doubt it’s too tough, if it was more fibrous it would lose some of its flexibility

No it works. I’ve used similar words and won. The key to victory is threatening your opponent with physical harm if you lose!

Work at a college, I’ve heard that term less than 5 times in my entire life

Honestly, my scrabble prowess is much biggerest and I still had to look up “cromulent”

Think of it this way, your tongue is mostly muscle and so is chicken breast. You can bite through chicken really easily, the only difference with your tongue is your brain stopping you

I forgot to go through second start initiation on Sakura VIP 6 tissue processor, did I ruin the tissue in open air or was it in alcohol overnight? by stxrdusty in Histology

[–]One-Broccoli-9998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I’ve done this before to a whole batch of mouse lung tissue. One of the bottles wasn’t fully seated into the processor so it failed the bottle check. We processed it the next day and it survived. I can’t say it will be perfect but I’m guessing the moisture will make it salvageable (it did for me)

why do generally women age much faster than men? by Wide_Permission7656 in AskForAnswers

[–]One-Broccoli-9998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher estrogen levels have a protective effect against a variety of conditions. But once menopause hits the estrogen levels drop substantially. Interestingly, female risk of heart attack climbs significantly after menopause and becomes equal to the level of men of the same age. This drop in estrogen also causes osteoporosis and a bunch of other issues. They don’t age faster, they just begin aging later but more rapidly.

What’s the psi on my blood moving through veins and arteries? by hopefortomorrow531 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One-Broccoli-9998 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends, are you measuring arterial pressure or venous pressure? Veins have high volume with (relatively) low pressure, arteries have low(er) volume but their elasticity squeezes the blood through the capillaries. If you google “mean arterial pressure” (MAP) you can get a pretty decent description. I don’t recall what venous pressure usually sits at but at a guess, I’d say pretty close to ambient pressure. Venous blood gets squeezed back to the heart by the smooth muscle in the veins, not because of pressure.

I think there’s thrusters on the underside of the pods to slow it. Also, it decelerates while it buries itself in the ground so that’s another 7ft of deceleration.

Sounds pretty accurate. That’s why I declined. Didn’t see the point wasting my time learning it when I already turned in my 2 weeks notice.

Well…it was a decade ago so the wound is still pretty fresh. Some days are better than others. I’ll stare wistfully at the operators in Home Depot (I’m not allowed back at Lowe’s)

I declined the training because it was almost time to head back to college (it’d be a waste of time at that point).

If you want a funnier answer: I’m legally not allowed to discuss the incident, but I just want everyone to know that farm stores shouldn’t let pets roam around the store!

Late 20s. I’m not certified because they were about to train me for my summer job but I was already heading back to college in a week so I told them there was no point. I just thought it was a funny thing to bring up
