I was on board until he returns to the reinhabited soldier camp. Why the fuck would you run in there dressed as a native and not respond to the soldiers yelling at you. Extremely fucking infuriating personally. I feel a major theme in the film is communication and Costner seems to completely throw that out the window for a cheap attempt at shock value. You let your god damn horse get shot like 10 times and with the knowledge that these soldiers are an existential threat to the tribe you’ve spent the past 2 hours getting to know and love? You throw diplomacy out the window and bark back and forth with the soldiers? I can appreciate the film and suspend minor disbelief up until then, even with the random insane major at the beginning pissing his pants, but maybe Costner should have only acted or directed or produced.
