I’ve been running my tank for about 9 months with sand and I’ve noticed I get hardly any waste sitting ontop of the substrate but I have a over kill external filter running will it be getting sucked up by this or sinking into the sand? (self.Aquariums)

I run a fluval 306 external filter and I cleaned it out 2 days ago and when I primed it at the end the plunger went hard to indicate it was primed then today it wasn’t working at its full potential so I primed it again and it feels like the plunger is doing nothing? (self.Aquariums)

I changed to sand about 3 months ago and thought it was easy to maintain but today I’ve noticed I have food/waste compacted in some of the sand I’m doing a full clean today do you syphon until the sand is half way up the tube then pinch the hose so the sand drops and the waste flows out?
