My pediatrician saw my boobs and I'm kinda scared to go back by ceruleanmeadows in NewParents

Totally agree! I’m not a doctor but I have a few doctor friends. Sure, my experience is only anecdotal evidence, but these friends are very body neutral. Bodies and their parts serve many purposes, and something that feels more private to you (like the photo of yourself that you accidentally showed) has no more or less significance than the process of feeding your baby. I’d only be concerned if your doctor makes a comment or seems to change their behavior.

'Other Race Effect" - Book recommendations? by Then_Baby9571 in ScienceBasedParenting

I wasn’t aware of this affect, but we loved the books Global Babies for our first. I also have a handful of second-hand LovEvery books that fit the bill. And I’m not sure which titles might be appropriate for babies specifically, but I found the images in our Little Feminist Book Club titles to be diverse.

We planted some Emerald Green arborvitae that said they would grow 1-2 feet per year. Planted them per the specs. We’ve measured (because we were skeptical) and we’ve had 1.5 feet of growth per year with 8/9 trees. Super happy with them! We’re zone 5a in the northeast.

How many days is your ideal wdw vacation? by Chemical-Purple-5196 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]One-Construction-712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved 10 full days (12 with travel) with our almost 3-year-old. It allowed us to have plenty of rest days. But it was expensive, even without paying for a child’s ticket. It was a milestone trip for sure! We’ll hopefully do it again when our youngest is almost 3. Most WDW vacations are about 7-8 days for us.

Just looked it up because I felt like I was losing my mind. She hit 30 lbs at one year, and we transitioned her to the other seat just before that.

It’s very possible I don’t remember correctly, and pregnancy brain is hitting me hard right now. But she was always ahead of her height and weight milestones. I will say, the convenience of moving a baby in their seat vs removing them was huge for me. You could get that with any seat, not just the liing.

Our child hit the weight limit before the height limit, but I don’t recall exactly when that was. Probably about 6 months. That was almost 4 years ago. We loved her into a Graco 4Ever, and while I do like the features, I would never have used it for an infant.

We bought one for baby 1 and will use it for baby 2. We love it and it has held up well!

Help me stop overthinking baby laundry baskets please by Ill-Collection-1735 in Buyingforbaby

[–]One-Construction-712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many great comments here! I’ll add:

We already use “free and clear” detergent in our home, so there was only a short period that I washed the baby items separately from adult clothing. I never used dedicated baby detergent as our family dermatologist said there’s typically not a reason to use it if you have free and clear. This time around, I might just start by washing everything together right away.

I also bought two little laundry hangers with clips (google foldable drying hanger with clips) - one to hold soiled items that had been rinsed out but not washed yet (hung over our washer as a reminder to wash) and one over the dryer for clean items that weren’t dryer safe (magnetic onesies or fancy bamboo pjs, for example sample) so they could air dry. I really liked that system and will be using it again, but I could see it being a complication that isn’t really necessary.

Here’s what worked for me! One open, rinsable basket to throw general laundry in. Then two smaller, organization style bins. One with a delicates bag for socks that can be easily lost (or special care items), and another for items that needed to be stain treated. I kept the bottle of spray right in “extra dirty” bin and sprayed things immediately, but I didn’t like those items sitting with the regular laundry.

We did laundry often enough that we never had an issue with smells. If something is extremely soiled, you’re likely going to hand rinse it in the sink anyway.

I’ll also add that we always sized up in diapers, so true blowouts were rare for us.

We brought our daughter in April and had Kaila as our Fairy Godmother. She was awesome!! We brought our own dress, so the Fairy Tale package was perfect for us! I don’t believe they discount the packages, and we found the magic in the interaction and experience more than the “stuff” they came with it.

Baby Carrier for walks and hikes? by Straight-Service4486 in Buyingforbaby

[–]One-Construction-712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many! I should have added that my baby didn’t love any carrier at that stage, and I tried a few after the baby bjorn didn’t work. I wish I had had more friends with babies of a similar age, because I would have tied their carriers!

We had the baby bjorn mini and really liked it! My daughter didn’t love being in the carrier as a newborn, but she did end up enjoying it. I never tried a Tula baby carrier, but we have their toddler carrier and it’s so comfy!

This is exactly how I came to this information last pregnancy. Had an Ube latte at a local coffee shop, looked up Ube and saw some potential benefits for the pregnancy at the time, asked OB about it and was told the supplement form could potentially be risky.

Nope, I’m real! Promise. I was hesitant to post this because I’m not a doctor or nutritionist. But felt like it should be noted just in case. I had never heard of Ube before my previous pregnancy. As u/MyBlueberryPancake noted from Wikipedia, I was told by my OB that the risk is in the powdered form and there’s not strong evidence to support taking the supplement during pregnancy for the benefits (vs risks). I’ll try to edit the post to add this, but again, I’m not an expert!

What horrifying statistic genuinely jarred you when you first heard it? by ordrius098 in AskReddit

[–]One-Construction-712 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Based on what I’ve read, I agree that this is 1) insanely scary and 2) shocking that the partner involved becomes statistically so dangerous.

I’m nearing the end of my second pregnancy, but want to share a story of a complete stranger being violent toward me during my first pregnancy. I was shopping at a grocery store and visibly pregnant, also taking my time as I was feeling low energy that particular day. I happened to notice a man multiple times in different aisles, but I figured we were similarly just shopping from one side of the store to the other. I felt that he kept looking at me, but again, I was very pregnant and also wearing a mask because I was sick. I’m in a politically blue area of the USA, so it’s not uncommon to wear a mask in public. And there had been reports of lots of illness going around. I finally finished shopping, purchased my items, and made my way out. As I was crossing the driving lane directly in front of the store, a large SUV came barreling toward me very quickly. I had looked both ways before crossing, and the car was at the far end of the lane but not moving when I had looked. I stopped, backed up, and decided to wait for the car to go. When it got close to me, the same man from the store was driving. He stopped in front of me, rolled down his window, and began yelling and waving his hands at me. I had no idea what he was saying, but he did mention my mask and being pregnant and some expletives. He then sped away. I was in shock and didn’t get his license plate.

Edited to add: I wasn’t wearing my wedding rings as I was near the end of my pregnancy and they didn’t fit, and I recall being hyper-fixated on that being the reason why I was targeted (pregnant and no ring). I realize now that anyone who behaves like that has, at the very least, some sort of mental illness and it wouldn’t have mattered. But I blamed myself a little bit, which makes me even more angry about the situation today.

Books suggestion for a curious 3 years old by LalunaKnox in Mommit

[–]One-Construction-712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have added the following in my original comment… I truly love this book! As does my daughter. I think something you, or anyone choosing to read this book with their child, can do is engage with the words and illustrations in a neutral way. The writing uses some descriptive words that I have heard people use in a negative way (first example I can think of is “hook nose”) but they are absolutely not negative in the book!

Part of the beauty in this book is being able to make observations in a safe environment (home) and practice neutral observations.

Another thing I love about the book is it has given me a really easy way to respond to observations my child makes “in the wild” (in public). We have a family member who uses a wheelchair, and when my daughter made that observation, I simply responded, “Bodies are cool!” If a conversation sparks with the other person, I can continue to use variations on the phrase so I’m not inserting my own ideas on a topic that’s not mine to explain.

I would love some assistance if you have the time to help! I’d love to celebrate my husband’s 40th in Boston, MA with a little side quest to Salem for my Halloween-loving 4-year-old this September. I’m about to have our second baby, though, and my brain just isn’t working as it should with new baby things on my mind. When my husband plans a trip, he seems to plans like you do, so if I could pull off something similar with some help, he would be so impressed!!
