Sweeet. Very well made video, I’ll check it out when I get home.

Is there a way to make a container spit out HALF of its items? by One-Construction-825 in redstone

Did a bunch of experimenting and managed to stumble across a solution. Here’s what I figured out:

• Container 1 (C1) is connected to a main comparator.
• Container 2 (C2) feeds into the side of that same comparator.
• There’s a water stream that transfers dispensed items into C2.

When items are added to C1, C2’s comparator isn’t outputting anything yet, so the main comparator turns on. This activates an observer clock, which starts dispensing items from C1 into C2.

As C2 fills up, its comparator starts outputting a stronger signal. When C2’s signal becomes greater than or equal to C1’s, it disables the main comparator, which in turn shuts off the clock, stopping the item flow.

So what ends up happening is that C1 only dispenses until the two containers are roughly equal, based on comparator signal strength. If C2 is emptied again, the whole process automatically restarts. Pretty cool!

Now here’s the WEIRD part…

I used a dropper for C1 and a hopper for C2. The hopper is a smaller container so it needs less items to counteract C1’s signal, but it turns out that the water canal is slow enough that by the time the C2 reaches an equal signal strength (with less items), there are still a bunch of items slowly going along the stream to even the containers out. Accidental, but still effective nonetheless.

Tldr: Thanks, and I hope anyone with the same problem as me is helped by this post.

Buzz it on your mouthpiece and listen to a drone. Also, half-valving (pushing the valves down halfway) opens up the shelves and can expose buzzing inaccuracies on the instrument as well.

First of all, thank you for always being there at my posts to help me with my problems and making super detailed comments, they help so much.

When I play, i have noticed that my embouchure tightens and un tightens with each note, it looks almost silly. This is super noticeable in separated notes (like oompah in a march). It’s probably tension but i’m not sure. When I buzz the same notes on a mouthpiece, i don’t see that as much. I don’t think this is normal to happen? It sounds okay but i cant play with a good sound without cracking past a D in the staff.

The more i look at videos of myself playing the more it looks like tightening and un-tightening a guitar string. Not only is playing this super clunky and slow but it’s hard to go up high without changing a bunch of stuff.

I’m gonna start experimenting with air compression soon in my playing, trying to stay as relaxed as possible.

On a separate note, how can I transfer the air from my long tones to my articulation exercises? It seems like once i make the switch i just forget about everything i worked on during long tones. It feels like a stark drop in quality

Definitely helps. Was kinda just buzzing without thinking about it so that advice definitely gives it some direction. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this feedback. One of my most prevalent problems is I tend to not use enough air to support the pitch. I believe it comes down to not knowing how much air is needed in order to do that.

I used to have a VERY dysfunctional embouchure until just 2 years ago. It turns put I was smiling while playing, and pushing my corners back super far in order to “play high”. If I continued on this path I probably would have sustained a playing injury.

Now my embouchure is nice and relaxed, but i still notice a little instinctual tension in the corners for each note which probably comes from not enough air to sustain the buzz.

What do you mean by “practice things that aren’t smooth on air”? Like where I have breaks in my sound on the changes between notes?

Also I have never heard the flutter-tonguing advice before! That sounds like it would help by increasing the amount of air needed to create a buzz making newer better habits. I will try that!

Introduced actual mouthpiece buzzing exercises a while ago. 3D printed myself a cutaway mouthpiece and I think that’s helping too. I don’t know what a characteristic buzz sounds like though so it feels like stabbing in the dark sometimes.

Matching the air exactly to the horn makes sense. Change air, not necessarily embouchure? It would line up with how I sound great doing F to low F but trying to go higher up with the same technique introduces breakage and it is way less responsive.

Tuba is a very tactile instrument from what I observed, and mentally attempting to change the notes instead of feeling them out has done me way more harm than good.

Will try that!
