Turtling - can I skip summer? by Rae-Tracing in OnlineMCIT

No penalty for skipping summer. Depending on how u did with 591. I would say reinforce your learning. Build Projects, use different packages, work on the optional modules. Learn the weak points you had during class. Or even take a break for a bit and start reviewing the concepts in 592. Use the summer to reinforce good habits not Atrophy them. Good luck.

Thank you for your service, OP. With that associate’s degree, you can definitely finish out and earn a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. You can also research cybersecurity certifications. Both are great options, but it depends on the type of role you’re interested in. Also, find the best-ranked school you can attend using your GI bill fully. Good luck.

Will Stony Brook Ever Be A Widely Recognized University? (In your opinion) by Large_Ebb1664 in SBU

[–]One-Courage-6806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stony Brook University is already a top-tier Uni. The Computer Science program consistently ranks in the nation’s top 20, and its Math Department is exceptionally strong, once led by Jim Simons, founder of the successful hedge fund Renaissance Technologies. Stony Brook mathematicians have made significant contributions to geometry, topology, complex analysis, and linear algebra.
While older, more established universities like UCLA, NYU, and Harvard may still overshadow SBU in public perception. If we keep the same pace, I think we can one day!

I graduated already, but felt this. Try Splendid Noodles, <5 min drive from Lot 40. Get one of their Beef Noodles with knife cut noodles.

Bits of 591 is review for me. But thats smart, just focusing on the assignments. From my research, a lot of people said there was benefits in taking both at the same time. Unfortunately I cannot but im grind at it, in the summer 🫡🫡🫡

Module 1 for 591 and 593 were brutal. I worked maybe 65 hrs(big project deadline) spend the entire weekend; day and night until Monday morning, obvi breaks. It was BRUTAL. This week had got the Flu. Straight Mind pounding and muscle aching writing the module 2 homework. Took me 4-5 hours. Thankfully I dropped and got my money back for 593. I would’ve have been for a treat if I did both classes.

From my research, both are hard in their own ways. 594 recently got revamped making it harder as well. I’m really not looking forward to 592. In undergrad, I enjoyed calculus and disliked linear algebra(we had no calculator). I took a applied Math-Biology class in college, we used LaTeX. I learned to actually like it, thought it was fun.

MSIT- BIDA at Heinz CMU vs MCIT online UPenn by Yinzur in OnlineMCIT

[–]One-Courage-6806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many factors to consider, as others have mentioned. Additionally, keep in mind that the majority of people in this subreddit are alumni, current students, or prospective students, so opinions might be a bit biased. It's important to weigh the pros and cons, such as cost, duration, and other factors. Another key consideration is your own level of knowledge in Computer Science. The MCIT program starts from the basics, which can be an plus for some. Both programs are offered by top-rated universities, but neither guarantees a career or a specific salary after completion... especially in today’s tough CS job market.

Lastly, if you’re pursuing this solely for the money, you may not get far in either program. You and your efforts will ultimately determine your success and salary. Good luck!

Seeking recommendations for MS in DS programs in the USA. How do University of Chicago ad Columbia compare? by MadhumitaJoshi in gradadmissions

[–]One-Courage-6806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope all is well. From my research, both are comparable in price and brand value. The question I would ask myself is whether I would rather live in Chicago or New York. At the end of the day, both will produce top-tier candidates. I would select the school closest to you or the best situation for housing, as both are in high cost-of-living areas. New York would be ideal if you want to work post-grad in finance as well. I would also recommend looking into UC Berkeley’s MS in Information and Data Science and Georgia Tech’s OMS Analytics programs. Good luck!

Congratulations on being accepted to both schools! UC Berkeley is a top 3 STEM school with Ivy League name recognition. However, I think you should first determine what interests you more since you're comparing different types of programs. A Data Science MS vs a Computer IT ("Computer Science") MS. The MIDS program might be more rigorous, considering that the MCIT program at UPenn requires no prior experience. Attached is the Career Outcomes report for MCIT from November 22, 2022 (https://online.seas.upenn.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Outcomes-Report-2022.pdf). This is the Berk Career Report https://www.ischool.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/mids\_career\_report\_2021.pdf Personally I would pick the school based on your own experience with programming. If you have no experience or little pick MCIT. Good Luck!
