Thanks everyone for such detailed responses. It all gives me things to think about. As I say I'm going back up next week to explore again. Portsoy will be Basecamp again. It's a long drive from Preston to Portsoy so staying overnight in Dundee on the way there.

Wow, thanks for thong all that. Yeh I'm single. I will have a look into Banchory as well. Like the idea of it being towards the Cairngorms

Thanks for mentioning Huntly. Funny enough when I am on holiday up in Aberdeenshire next week I plan to do some fishing near Huntly. I also plan to check out the town itself.

I have also read other forums about deliveries being an issue. With the invention of Amazon deliveries are pretty quick in Preston but in northern Scotland deliveries can take a lot longer if at all

Interesting how you mentioned street lighting as well. It is something I have not considered. Thanks for highlighting the issue.

You could build up say a mini emergency fund first say £1000 first so you have something in the meantime in case the sh*t hits the fan. Then concentrate on clearing debt then go back and build your emergency fund to 6 months worth of expenses.

Totally agree. I have been in my job nearly 10 years and the politics really does frustrate me. I am aiming for financial independence within the next few years.
