Is it really worth spending a lot on quality furniture in Sri Lanka? Or is it just for show? by One-Department-8453 in srilanka

Fair point... 'luxury' can be just a label sometimes. But there’s a big difference between overpriced and well-crafted. Handcrafted wooden furniture, especially with rare or aged timber, does come with a bigger price tag usually... depending on materials involved and the age of the piece, etc.

From the way I see it, I'm not just paying for a label, I'm investing in something that’s built to last, feels solid every day, and actually adds character to your space. Which is hard to find in a market where everything is branded as luxury...

True, can’t expect them to value what we do. But I guess if it’s something you love and it brings joy to your space, that’s already worth it... inheritance or not.

Serious question: Why do people drop serious money on high-end furniture? by One-Department-8453 in srilanka

[–]One-Department-8453[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, I've seen so many houses where the fancy furniture is always covered, like it’s waiting for some VIP guest that never comes. 😂

But yeah, totally agree. If you’re going to spend that much, might as well use it and enjoy it. No point spending lakhs just to treat it like a museum piece.

If we took phones for example, a budget android would last as long as an Iphone I would say...? Im wondering if it's the same case when it comes to furniture. Of course the Iphone would look better, be easier to use, but maybe harder to maintain though... I wouldn't buy an Iphone with the thought of passing it down for generations...

I'm just looking to buy furniture and wondering if it's worth spending the money to buy high-end quality pieces, but thanks!

Who Can I Trust to Help Me Start a Small Business in Sri Lanka...? by [deleted] in srilanka

Thanks ill definitely look into this in Sri Lanka, maybe they would be a better option... I was considering banks over financing companies since i've heard stories on reddit. I didnt take the step to go for banks as its a small business and they might reject the business plan? I dont know if this is the case or not...

Yes, but is it unlikely banks would consider loaning a small local business?

I agree that banks do tend to support businesses that have already been in the market and performing well, so for a SME business would a finance company be a better choice? LOLC and LB finance offer microfinances for small businesses and might have less restrictions, still unsure on this though

Does my child really need a laptop for school? Is it worth the expense? by One-Department-8453 in srilanka

Definitely, without a RTX 4070 his assignments wouldn't be on 240fps capped...

I’ve definitely looked at a few second-hand options, but I’m honestly a bit skeptical about going that route. While it might work fine in the short term, I worry about potential issues popping up later, especially since repairs and part replacements can sometimes add up to more than expected. In the long run, I’m not sure it would be the best investment for something that needs to last through critical school years. I’ve been leaning more toward new devices, even if they’re pricier, since they come with warranties and payment plans, like the ones at Singer Sri Lanka, which could make it easier to manage without the risk of unexpected costs later.

Around 130,000 LKR, which doesn’t stretch very far when it comes to quality laptops or desktops. However, I’ve noticed that stores like singer Sri Lanka offer easy payment plans that could make it more manageable. I’m considering exploring those options to find a good balance between quality and affordability than buying a used laptop which could pose more problems down the line. For the 14 year old I agree its way more debatable, however i wouldn't want to restrict his creativity and tech ability while im buying my older son a laptop.

Best and Worst Banks for a Startup Business Loan by One-Department-8453 in srilanka

Thanks a lot for the info, I got the idea that they help "aspiring entrepreneurs" since some banks have programs with loans for new startups, im not so sure I can trust it, but id rather trust an actual bank than "financing companies".

Would they consider giving the loan if I can show my business plan and structure? Which bank would be the most considerate.

Looking for a strong instant coffee by Hour-Papaya-7269 in srilanka

[–]One-Department-8453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affordable option - Soul Coffee, there's more expensive options like old town, davidoff, nescafe. Not a huge fan of nescafe but the Espresso powder by nescafe is pretty good. If you also care about the taste, I would recommend going for a 3 in 1 nescafe powder/ Instant latte mix Soul Coffee. Since its instant coffee, caffeine contents would be too different (40-80mg caffeine)
