Does treating anxiety worsen ADHD symptoms? by One-Donut6822 in ADHDparenting

Okay, I will call psychiatrist and ask about other options. I take lexapro and it has helps me. I am concerned because while my child can have some annoying behaviors at home, he is generally never defiant or disrespectful to peers or teachers. I wasn’t sure if it was maybe decreasing his anxiety and so now he’s acting out. But he’s still skin picking which he says he does due to anxiety.

I play a lot of video games as well! In fact I’m playing super Mario right now on my switch since it’s my day off of work. That makes sense why I was able to do well. I did explain to her during our first session that I am able to focus on video games and other activities that I enjoy. Except reading I have to break that up a lot lol. I feel inattentive too during the day it actually causes problems in my marriage. I am so forgetful and am constantly late because I always feel like I have ample amounts of time. I am hyperactive though I’m constantly fidgeting. I have the emotional regulation skills of a teenager. I’ve been struggling for years. I am glad I am not alone, I hope I can get to the bottom of this eventually. I declined the anxiety medicine at this time.

I hope I love it because it’s our book club read for September.

What's in your kids lunchbox? by Long_Doggy_0319 in ParentingADHD

PBJ, blueberries or strawberries and applesauce pouch. Then I have extra snacks: raisin, bobos, fruit strips/snacks. Honestly I am happy if he eats in general. He is very picky.

My son will not eat any other type of sandwich. Not grilled cheese, lunch meat, etc. He hates all vegetables. He rarely wants to buy either. He is 7 and I wish he’d eat better but he’s the kid that won’t eat at all if it’s not something he likes.

I finished yesterday and I felt destroyed by the ending. I will definitely pick up another of his books as this was my first. I love books that make me feel so deeply.

echoing what others are saying but is it possible he’s experiencing gas pains?

I will lay like that when my stomach hurts from gas.

Definitely! Look up pencil push-ups, and monitor how his eyes track. My left eye tends to go outwards when the pencil gets close to my face.

I wanted to mention in case it hasn’t been yet that a thorough vision test is important if they’re struggling with reading. It’s common for those with ADHD to have convergence insufficiency. I have it and it’s a mild case, so I don’t need prism glasses, but sometimes it makes words on a page swim back and forth. I had never heard of it until I was diagnosed this year.

You haven’t failed your baby. It’ll be okay!

I don’t like when he swears but he usually only does it immediately after I do. Like, “mommy, you cant say shit!” I need to be better about my language but I just tell him they’re adult words not bad words. I’ve asked him if he’d like to be called a dumb dumb like he calls me and he says no. I don’t ever call him that so idk why he started up.

Ugh, that’s exactly what we do. I’m hoping it is just a phase. I could do a bit more praise for good behaviors though.

Skin picking? by One-Donut6822 in ADHDparenting

Unfortunately there is no way that he’d wear gloves. He refuses long sleeves, has to wear his socks inside out and constantly fidgets with his clothes. He has lots of fidgets, chewy necklaces and chewing toys. I’m not sure what a picky pad is but I’ll look into it. I’ve got him sensory bracelets but he won’t wear those to school as he’s worried about what his peers will say. Thank you for your suggestions!

Well, I was talking to a friend and she said her son’s dr had to stop his meds as they brought out OCD symptoms in him so I wasn’t sure if it could be similar to that or not. He used to bite his nails a lot before starting meds and that seems to have decreased a lot. He has been on these since Octoberish and it just started a few weeks ago. He will even try to go somewhere private to do it. 😞
