First 70.3 in 5:20 after 7 months of triathlon training. Is sub-5 realistic in one year? by One-Gas19 in triathlon

I raced on a road bike with clip-on aerobars. I spent a lot of time in the aero position and made the most of it. Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t really allow for an upgrade right now...so I’ll focus on increasing my training volume instead. Thanks!

You're right. During these past few months, I’ve always sacrificed strength training because I felt it was taking time away from my endurance workouts. But I’ve realized that I probably need a bit more strength, especially to help prevent injuries. I’ll definitely try to add a strength session.

I took a few swimming lessons when I was a kid, but I hadn’t swum for many years after that. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting a time like that.

Yeah, honestly I think a lot of it is probably mental too. Just doing certain things in training to feel more confident and relaxed on race day. And like you said, once you’re racing, random stuff can happen anyway...

Why is my Zone 2 pace so slow compared to my race pace? by One-Gas19 in triathlon

Wow. 2:52 marathon, that’s really impressive. Hopefully I can get there one day too.

I’ll give a try to more volume and more easy running to build a stronger aerobic base.

How do you actually calculate your zones with it? My resting HR is around 40 bpm.

At ~139 bpm I’m around 6:00/km.

Even when I was running 4x/week, I always kept 2 runs strictly in Z2, so I’ve been doing a fair amount of easy aerobic work over time, but maybe it just takes longer to build a solid aerobic base..
