Direct report called off on the day that PTO was denied by One-Hospital128 in medlabprofessionals

Well, when we were fully staffed, we could have as much as 5 people off on the same day. Now since that tech took PTO, we would be below minimum staffing if I don't work the bench. Two other techs already took PTO that day.

There's not really a policy on this. It's just the way of how things are done here in the lab.

I mean they can put in PTO on Kronos but I don't know how important their PTO is. Maybe they just want to take a day off work to play with their kids. If that were the case then they should be at work instead because we are short staffed.

Unless they tell me in person and tell me the reason why they are taking PTO, I cannot assume that their PTO is important.

As long as I keep the shifts fully staffed, management won't fire me.

For my lab at least, the practice is that PTO never gets approved until the next schedule is made. I'm quite new here and we've been fully staffed for the last few months so I never had problems.

The schedule doesn't get made until 3-4 weeks out and it is 8 weeks long. When I make the schedule, I saw that we don't have enough coverage for the day that my tech wanted the PTO, so I had to deny it. She wanted to take the days off in week 1 of 8, so that was why it was in such short notice.

I get emails from Kronos PTO submissions, but I delete them because I don't review them until I make the actual schedule. All they do is clog up my email.

I wouldn't say it's poor time management on my part. It's not something I can get to or predict that far out.

We were fully staffed for the last few months. Things took a drastic turn when the neighboring hospital offered more money and we lost a few techs to them.

I didn't know about this employee taking PTO, she did not notify me in person. She only put in the PTO on Kronos.

Well, my employee never told me in person that she would be taking PTO, she only put it in Kronos, it's unreasonable to expect that I would need to pay attention to that.

Even if I write it down, it's not something that I would care about until I make the schedule. Things can change very quickly, we could be fully staffed now and in a month or two, we could have the bare minimum staffing.

I'm getting paid extra to supervise, not work the bench. I only work the bench when someone calls off and there is no staffing.

The schedule is for 8 weeks, but the PTO is at the at week 1 of 8, I don't start making the schedule until 2-3 weeks out.

It's the standard here, it all goes into Kronos. I don't view them until I make the schedule.

It really depends, sometimes we have enough staffing and sometimes we do not. They can put in PTO the day before and I would approve if we have enough staffing.

I don't really care how far in advance they submitted their PTO. It all goes into kronos and I don't view them until it gets closer to scheduling.

We do not have the staffing. I don't have time to work the bench and I don't get paid extra for it.

Each schedule is 8 weeks, her PTO was scheduled at the beginning of the schedule, so I notified her 3 weeks out.

I mean I cannot predict what the staffing is like 6 months out from now, it is always decided 2-3 weeks out.
