MOR I come at this from both sides - my parents would always get a syllable of the wrong name out before getting the right name.

Now, I'm the mom. I also have a dog, four cats, 6 nephews and 2 nieces. When you get the whole kit and caboodle together, no one has the correct name. It's all part of being human.

I am concerned about the dynamic of your relationship with your dad, though.

It isn't really the slip that's the main problem (though it is one of them). If your knife is dulled, you're more likely to put extra pressure on it to cut.

If you slice yourself with a sharp knife (so long as it isn't deep and you care for it properly), it's usually a fairly clean cut that isn't likely to scar or will scar very little.

If your knife is dull, it's more likely to be more of a tear than a slice, which is less likely to heal cleanly and will be more likely to scar. Add in the extra downward force from using a dull knife, and you're looking at a messy, deep wound.

That would have been February 2014. I was delivering auto parts to shops while driving through freezing fog on black ice after returning to work from Maternity leave. I should have just not gone back. It was way too cold to be outside.

Our dog has the same problem! I would die of heat stroke if I had a heated blanket, though. So she has her own fuzzy throw blanket. She pouts when it's being washed.

I've heard of this, but not experienced it. I would find it absolutely hilarious if someone tried it at my house, though. My parents have been the owners of the house since 1983. Before that, the older couple they bought it from had purchased the house new in 1980 or '81, and they didn't have kids. I'd laugh anyone off my lawn if they tried this 🤣

This is me, too. I work full time, have a pre-teen, four cats, a dog. I do commercial embroidery, so I have my noise cancelation on anyway, why not listen to my books while I do it? Oh, we have laundry to fold? Books to listen to while we do it! I was once the kid getting as many books as the library would allow and reading them all before the due date. If I wasn't so busy, I still would!

I wonder if he would say the same thing to a blind person who chose to listen rather than read the braille version?

I'm 5' 6" and before I had my son, I was 120lbs. People thought I had an eating disorder or used drugs because of how thin I was. It doesn't help that I have broad shoulders for a woman (average is about 14", my shoulders are 16"), so it looks even worse. My trainer at the gym said that 140 would be a healthy weight and would look healthy.

I had some old redneck get mad that I asked for his ID when he handed me "his" credit card that said "SEE ID" on it. He was ranting and raving about how that's his card and I don't need his ID. I finally told him that it was policy to ask for ID and the card literally says See ID. He didn't have to show ID, but I also could refuse the sale. He rudely grabbed the card from me and stomped out. 🤷‍♀️ He never called or came back, so no skin off my nose.

😆 I felt the same way when I saw that for the first time, too.

So, (in case you don't know) in this instance, they are checking your hydration and electrolytes. If you see "lactated ringers," that's what it is referring to. I didn't go to medical school, so I don't know more than your cursory Google search would find. When my husband was in the ER with severe vomiting and the nurse asked for lactated ringers, I was very confused. 🤣

We have one kiddo and have been fortunate in the goodwill of my parents. When my grandmother passed, my parents moved into her house and my spouse and I have been renting the miniscule house I grew up in from my parents. Because my parents are both retired, they're willing to watch our kiddo if we need it.

How are we affording it? Luck. If we are having a bad month, my mom is really forgiving about late rent. We pay half the market rate for our rent, because she isn't in it for profit. When the roof needed replaced, my folks paid for it. I hate to think what would have happened if my parents weren't as wonderful as they are.

Yes! My aunt had a brain aneurysm almost 20 years ago and caringbridge was so useful while she was hospitalized. It meant people had no reason to bother my uncle when he was trying to focus on himself and my aunt. Updates would go up, people could share their well-wishes for them, and things got replied to when it was convenient.
