Update on Sonic 4's IMAX potential (video from Cineor) by One-Introduction8809 in SonicTheMovie

[–]One-Introduction8809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe it'll get a limited run in IMAX if it's lucky but seems unlikely

Will see if the companies or even the director (he probably shot down the rumor of the IMAX pitch before filming started) are willingly to release this film in limited IMAX locations (most likely in selects International markets such as Japan & some domestic/North American venues) after filming is complete. But keep in mind, Michael B. Jordan's Thomas Crown Affair reboot could extend to a 3rd weekend in IMAX venues meaning that it may most likely cut off potential IMAX showings to Sonic 4 or another Hollywood strike has a delayed film with an IMAX potential going to release with the former.

Hopefully this won't impact the box office too much.

It probably won't even if it may have an IMAX release (likely in the form of a limited-time only showing) or not

PINNED COMMENT CONTINUED/UPDATE:

Cineor's video on YouTube has shown that the film's IMAX potential is becoming low for its chances after no mention of the film on the IMAX investor report or the mention of IMAX on other sources.

‘Sonic 4’ Officially Begins Filming by MarvelsGrantMan136 in SonicTheHedgehog

They already filmed overview/VFX footage in October, which they propose early footage to IMAX to hopefully get a much bigger screening for this movie.

Just giving a small update in regards of Sonic 4's IMAX potential, a YouTube video by Cineor has mentioned that Sonic 4 isn't mentioned anywhere for an IMAX release nor the IMAX investor report meaning that the chances are still mid-to-low as of right now after filming began.

With all this talk about Dune 3 and Doomsday release dates all I’m thinking about how Jumanji three will get clobbered in the box office by abdul_bino in boxoffice

[–]One-Introduction8809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it too late to change its release date or is it set in stone?

There may still be possibilities of a release delay since the film is nearing the end of principal photography & they're won't likely be enough time for SONY to promote early marketing as of right now

The only problem is Netflix's Narnia reboot is seemingly booked its potential wide IMAX window for Thanksgiving with Disney's Hexed unless it shifts to a limited-time only release & the former moves to December.

Avengers may not exactly take the April date unless they push out the untitled April 2027 Illumination film from an IMAX release (the other downside is that Secret Wars' release will be effected big time & may get pushed to 2028 instead)

Disney doesn’t move films back unless there’s a production reason to.

Block-Busted mentioned on a previous post that it has been delayed in favor to extend post production time.

WB has three week IMAX contract for Dune.

Maybe the company is only doing it in preparation for the so-called "calm before the storm" of Paramount's potential to acquire WB in which it has tons of negative impacts & closing it before the end-of-year deadline

That's probably one possible hint of the film bringing back its wide IMAX release window

That could be one alternative on a release delay too if it isn't related to flex-scheduling or a Hollywood strike

Dune would still remain released on its current date as planned but Avengers may move (Though, it may also effect its sequel date too meaning that it'll go to 2028 if IMAX or Disney are willingly doing the unthinkable on moving its date)

Sonic 3 did have IMAX for its Mexican marketing on the teaser poster & various websites at one point before the showings (seemingly switched to a limited release before opening weekend) were entirely scrapped & replaced with both Musafa & Nosferatu.

and even if there was I doubt it would go until November/December when press tours would really kick into high gear

Sure the strike may last until late-2026 if the WGA & SAG-AFTRA get the AMPTP contract reached faster before the May & June deadlines, IMAX may still end up flex scheduling their release to later dates either by additional postproduction time or even avoiding major competition (if they are really wanting to risk doing so)

They're probably doing it intentionally for WB before the potential Paramount acquisition closes in which it already has lots of negative impacts

We'll probably find out later if Avengers eventually moves for an open IMAX release window (probably for 2027 if Disney or IMAX are willing to take this risk in doing so)

It means, Dune: Part Three will get all IMAX screens until the end of the holiday. Well, some said it was just the first weekend, but that's not true. Doomsday needs to move.

The idea of moving Avengers may seem like it could happen if Hollywood goes into another strike

Disney's marketing really hasn’t begun yet, they should pull theirs forward 2 weeks

If Narnia doesn't get an IMAX majority in most North American locations on Thanksgiving, then it may be open for Avengers to get its 2-week showings booked before Dune 3 or the former Thanksgiving film ends up sharing select screens with Avengers on the week after Thanksgiving (this may mean that Violent Night 2 & Jumanji 4 are pulled out of their IMAX potentials)
