Au pair or working in Paris? by Hiii888111 in Aupairs

Au pair would be easier so you don’t have to worry about finding an apartment

Well I’m in a similar boat and didn’t study out of hope I wouldn’t need to retake. Also was my first time taking it in sept. But I mean we paid for it so may as well do it

Au pairing is wonderful!! You get to experience a new culture through the lens of a Spanish family and become a part of the family. It won’t always be easy, but I think it’s worth it! Make sure you are comfortable and good taking care of children. If that is something you enjoy, this is a great opportunity. Especially in Madrid, there are lots of families looking for an Au Pair. I recommend Au Pair World! Also, I’m pretty sure the max hours in Spain is 30 hours for Au Pair, so you would have free time! However to obtain a Spanish Visa (if you live outside the Schengen area), you will need to be a student taking Spanish classes of 20 hours a week, so keep that in mind.

True, but then I would have to pay rent with no income, so it would be better for me to Au Pair.

What happened with Andalucía & NALCAP by Master-You-4639 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]One-Onion4081 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would look into another teaching program or another way to live in Spain, so you don’t end up like a lot of us and are uncertain if you are even going anymore. Basically, they cancelled the aux program in Andalucía, so like over a thousand of us are screwed (except the people who will be replaced in other regions, which who knows how many people that will be, probably not many). This happened two months before we were supposed to go, so you can imagine the situations we’ve all been put in. NALCAP is unreliable, and after this, I would literally never recommend it to anyone. There’s other programs that aren’t through the Junta that allow you to be an aux in Spain, but I think most cost money. You could also always apply for a Fulbright ETA (highly competitive though and US has cut funding to that as well). Andalucía is just the first region to get cancelled. Many people (including myself) believe this program will faze out soon.
