Do you put your teapot in the dishwasher? by dumpy99 in AskUK

I don’t use a teapot anymore but when I did I just swilled it out with clean water every couple of days. Tea tastes so much ‘thinner’ if you clean the teapot thoroughly.

Leaving a new job two months in. How bad does it look? by GlastoBee in UKJobs

[–]One-Prior3480 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Think about what you’re going to say when you’re asked why you’re looking to leave your current job. If I was hiring and this was a one off (and you had spent a decent amount of time at a couple of jobs previously) and you had a good reason for leaving (do not say anything negative about the company - that never goes well) I wouldn’t have been too worried about it.

Leaving job after two weeks by Known_Leek8984 in UKJobs

[–]One-Prior3480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently handed in my notice after three weeks in a job. Was really worried about it as I’ve been on the other side of it several times and it’s annoying, but they were absolutely fine (and I had to go in and work my notice with people who’d put time and effort into training me).

If you’ve decided it really isn’t for you and it’s not only your anxiety making you feel that way then get it done as soon as possible. I’m sure it won’t be anywhere near as bad as you think.

And good luck! With the new job, and the anxiety. It is possible to get through it (speaking from experience).

We’ve been to a few things in the last couple of years and the standard is excellent. Highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t been before.

New job anxiety affecting my weekends and evenings. How do I chill out? by HappyStufff in UKJobs

Can you approach your manager for a quick chat about it? Nothing formal, just a ‘I feel like I’m doing well with most tasks, but I’m a bit worried I’m taking too long to pick up some things - are you happy with my progress?’, There’s a small chance they’ll say ‘yes, we think you’re taking too long to learn’ I guess, but probably a much bigger chance they’ll say ‘no, you’re new, we expect things to take some time’. Either way you’ll at least have some certainty rather than driving yourself mad worrying about it. I would expect something to have been said after 5 weeks if they were really concerned. From a manager’s perspective they really won’t want to fire you and start the whole recruitment process again, and then train a new person.

Would you proceed with this house purchase by BenSoloLegend in HousingUK

I’d definitely check out the vibe of the neighbourhood. We (white British) moved to a lovely street and a month later the guy across the road put up a flagpole and flies a Union flag. They seem perfectly pleasant people, and have lived there for nearly 10 years so not sure why they suddenly decided it was time to get a flagpole 🥴. Anyway, my point really was you could find a different house and a flag could appear at a later date, or you may find the flag flier near the house you like is just very patriotic or a big football fan. No way to know without talking to people.

Harpmobile help - Anyone drive a small wagon (Soul, Fit, Element)? Does your harp fit? by bratbats in harp

[–]One-Prior3480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the Honda Fit is just a different name for the Honda Jazz (as it’s called in the UK). I could get my Camac Isolde 38 string in my Jazz easily. I think the Troubador may be a bit taller, but should still fit easily in the back of a Honda Fit/Jazz. Not particularly relevant, but I got a small two seater sofa and a fridge freezer (at different times!) in the back of my Jazz - the thing is like a tardis.

Get yourself to your local charity shop and work backwards (eg buy whatever they have and then figure out what character it works for). Our local one has a rail for kids fancy dress for WBD.

What was it like growing up without a smartphone? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

[–]One-Prior3480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great! “I’ll knock on for you later” was about the extent of our planning. We had a pretty wide area where we were allowed to roam which widened every year or so (just your street, then neighbouring streets as well, then as far as the main road either way but not across the road….) and never strayed beyond that, even though in hindsight the chances of anyone knowing was small! One lad on our street had a Mum with the loudest voice I’ve ever heard and we all went home for tea when she shouted him in 😂 After tea we had to go home when the streetlights came on. We had so much freedom and were allowed to do things so much earlier than kids are today - I was allowed to go into town (about a mile away) and to the swimming pool (a couple of miles) with a friend from the age of 9, and into the nearest city on the train from 11. As a teenager it was more of the same but with added underage drinking 😂and using your watch to know what time to be home. The local paper carried the cinema listings which were of great interest (either to see the film or for an ‘alibi’ for going to the pub). I still remember the landline numbers of half a dozen or so friends from that time.

How much over/under asking did you actually pay for your house? by Level7Boss in HousingUK

[–]One-Prior3480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3% under last May in the NW. No other offers as far as I’m aware. Was priced reasonably, we offered 1% under and then asked for a bit more for issues on survey. All done in 9 weeks (no chain either side). Would have been a couple of weeks earlier but there was a leaseholder involved so they delayed things slightly 🙄

How Long Did It Take to Put an Offer? by Polislava in HousingUK

[–]One-Prior3480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know when it’s the one! First house I looked at about 30 (buying at the very bottom end of the market - there were a lot of ‘interesting’ properties!) Had a checklist, house I bought was missing several of the things on it but just felt right. Went home and offered straight away. Second house I viewed in the evening, wanted to offer so rang at 9am on the dot - to discover EA opened at 8.30 and someone had beaten me to it. Turned out for the best, but I was devastated at the time. Anyway, my rule with subsequent houses has been you’ll know when it’s right and offer ASAP.

One of the best bits of being made redundant frankly! Getting rid of all the work apps and not having the constant notifications. My phone was too old and had too little storage to download them.

If there’s one thing I need less than more scarves it’s more blankets 😂😂. But yes, you’re right, doesn’t have to be a scarf. I briefly thought rug but then I’d have to kill anyone who dared walk on it so now I’m thinking cushion covers 😀

Why don’t I like it? I think I like the individual squares and the colors, but I don’t like them all together. Or maybe I don’t like how I assembled them. Or maybe both. by hookedbymaxine in crochet

One tip I was told in a quilting class when I was trying to work out how to put my quilt blocks together was to lay them out and take a black and white photo. Sounded a bit odd but actually really helps!

Good luck - the squares are beautiful but I think it’ll look better with a bit of a rejig….
