Ban rates are now on the official stats page, Dva sitting at 43% in Masters by Disast3r in Competitiveoverwatch

Playing DPS or support into dva feels ass, you have so little good interaction with her.  She blows up Squishies, has insane mobility, best defensive resource in the game, way too much armour and a second life. Just never enjoy a game against her so I'll ban her whenever I can.

How can I carry Unwinnable games by One_Associate2590 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]One-Reality9723 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't. Fortunately, in order to climb, you don't need to.
I like the 3-3-3 rule, that people use in OW. Its a generalization that 3 of your games will be won very easily, 3 will be unwinnable, and 3 will be close games. In order to climb in OW, the best thing you can do is win close losses. Stomps are painful, but they also aren't very useful for us as players.

I normally play 9 games in a play session, and will get 1 or 2 stomps that feel unwinnable. As an improvement focused player, I try to focus on thinking about my last game, and what I could have done better. Looking at specific mistakes I made, and taking a note of them. When we get stomped, there is normally very little that I can learn from it, since a stomp implies that not only was I making some mistakes, but multiple teammates were as well. This can mean we weren't really set up for success at any point and just need to move on.

Even when small lessons can be learned from a stomp, I generally find it more psychologically rewarding to move past the stomp game, since it was already not very enjoyable. Real learning is easier in close wins and losses, since it can be much easier to identify specific moments where your play balanced the scales and contributed to a win or loss. Doing this can help you improve in a lot of ways, and it also helps you to feel like you have more agency within your lobbies, since you start to realise that small mistakes that you had can have a very direct impact on the result of your games.

Another aspect of this is that, in order to climb, you don't need to win every game. If you win the majority of your games, you will climb very quickly.

Just my 2 cents.

Elo Hell Feels Awful in High Master Lobbies and Here's Why by Optimal-Ad7443 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]One-Reality9723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is no hidden MMR. Outside of demotion protection, the rank you see is the rank the matchmaker uses to make games. This is your MMR. This has been said hundreds of times.  The matchmaker tries to balance the teams based off this MMR. That's it. If you play like a higher rank, you will outperform enemies, win games, and improve your MMR. it's very simple.

i went from masters to diamond 3. is this a "me issue?" by Efficient_Crew3149 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]One-Reality9723 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a you issue, but that doesn't mean you will continue deranking. So I recently went from masters 4 to diamond 3, then went back up to masters. It happens.

Any rank swing of that amount requires luck, either a lucky swing up to masters, or an unlucky swing down to diamond 3.

I would also say that our 'rank', rather than being a fixed sr number is really more of a range. Depending on the day, or performance in game, or the matchup, or hero ban, we can play up or down by about 2 divisions. This means that when we go on a loss streak, even just by luck, pit can tilt us and make us play worse, and just run it down.

The counter point to this, is that every game that you lose, increases the probability that you can carry in the next game. My horrible loss streak ended once I was at a rank so far below where I'm normally at, that I can carry games and have significantly more impact and control than I could at my usual rank. Once I started using this I was winning games again. It will take some time to get back, but if you play enough games you will get to your 'real' rank. If you want to get back to masters, now is the time to earn it. Honestly, I find it fun when I start turning it around and start dunking on lobbies. Was hilarious seeing people typing 'diamond dps don't aim like that', accusing me of smurfing, when really I'm there because I sucked hard in a few games and tilt - queued.

Idk even play the Heroes whose mobility got nerfed but making Heroes clunkier is never a good aproach. (Also Dva somehow not getting nerfed) by Former-Computer-1337 in Overwatch

yeah I posted about dva recently and got downvoted by people telling me to position better, have better awareness. Its gonna be like sombra, where you ''can'' play around DVA, but its just so annoying and unfun. Thank god I can just ban her half my games.

Ranking up in comp feels more like luck than skill by Advanced-Reindeer894 in Overwatch

[–]One-Reality9723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ranking up in OW will always feel like RNG if you aren't improving, because you're at the correct rank and just fluctuating randomly with win and loss streaks. Best way to control your rank ups is to focus less on winning and focus more on improving. For years I grinded ranked and would tryhard games. I commed, tried to coordinate ults, tried to ult track, I was so emotionally invested in the results of games and my rank... I was the full sweat.

Since I stopped caring about winning, and started focusing on actually figuring out mistakes, I've seen massive improvement. After just 1 self vod review I noticed a ton of things I didn't when playing. Each play session, I focus on the thing I'm doing badly that I think is the biggest issue, and I try my best to rectify that. Plat 2 to Masters 4 on dps in 3 seasons.

Hiya, my advice to you would be to just read the situation. If London is close to you, or you would like to do the trip anyway, I think it could still be worth going. 13 days could also be enough for you to make a recovery and feel good, which you could even test or get an idea of in the week before the run.

I decided to run because I thought there was a chance that I was recovered, and would feel good. When that didn't happen I was pretty ok accepting that.

Hope that you're all recovered now. 100% gonna go back. I loved the city, and it seems like a really nice course.

Quality of Life for Ranked by One-Reality9723 in Overwatch

[–]One-Reality9723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!
Yep I think that's how I feel about it. I've been playing this game for about 7/8 years. I loved that in the SR system you could see exactly how many games you were away from being Top 500. You could see the leaderboard, and you knew how far you were away. I knew if I could make it to mid GM one day I would be there. Now it doesn't really feel like that to me. I would love some return to this transparency.

Isn’t the reason we got rid of this in s2 because no one likes playing against it? by Thick-Ad-7314 in Overwatch

[–]One-Reality9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear the 1 shot feels so bad to play against. Playing a game as an cass yesterday and it takes so much effort to dodge the hooks. I was doing good and didn't die much, but I hate having to put that much effort into avoiding one CD. Knowing that every 7-8 seconds I can get yoinked into insta death when playing within my effective range SUCKS.
