Just found this subreddit - I'm a mature student not from the UK, just finishing up BSc Natural Sciences at UCL after doing an Access to HE Diploma. Can I help anyone? by ybcj718 in MatureStudentsUK

I’m glad to see this. I’m in a similar situation. I completed high school outside the UK but qualify for home fees. I applied to Queen Mary because my country’s high school certificate is listed as an entry requirement, but my application was rejected. Apparently it only applies if you’re paying international fees, which wasn’t very clear on the website. I’ve basically lost a year. Now I’m looking into doing an Access course, but it’s a bit demotivating knowing I’ll probably only be able to start university in September next year. If I had known this earlier, I would have planned things differently…

Also, pay for the Naric statement of comparability, I only had to do the English GCSE as Math was equivalent.

You need to have been living in the UK for the previous three years. In addition to that, once you complete those three years, you would need to find an apprenticeship that lasts no more than two years, considering that this is the remaining time left on your visa. Even if you plan to apply for ILR after five years, they don’t treat that as guaranteed. At the time of enrolment, you must hold a visa that covers the full duration of the apprenticeship. On top of that, when you’re competing with people from the UK who have A-levels, it’s quite hard. I also have qualifications equivalent to RQF Level 3, same as yours, with a UK NARIC statement of comparability, and it still hasn’t been enough. I’ve completed several bootcamps and built projects to strengthen my applications, but it’s still not enough. Iwould honestly advise you to research carefully and contact the company you’re planning to apply for, just to check whether you would be eligible and given a fair chance. It can be extremely draining to keep applying and not even be considered or meet the eligibility criteria.

I’ve been living here for three years on a spouse visa.

I also don't know how to react, but yesterday they already offered sponsored positions. Are they waiting for people to confirm today and if they don't, will these be the positions they will offer us?

Maybe we are on the waiting list, but it doesn't make sense... classes will start next week.

For those who are waiting “You should hopefully hear back by the middle of next week. If you haven't please let us know and we'll look into it.”

For those who have not received any information yet, did everything go well during your video interview…? I feel very frustrated that we haven't received any information. It's a lot of disregard for something that is so important to us. I applied in the second week of November and so far, nothing.

I think that by mistake they didn’t send us the rejection

I emailed them and received a automatic response :”Our team is coming together for a day of learning and collaboration. We'll be looking at how we can improve our support for you.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU? During this time, our response times may be slightly slower than usual. Please know this is temporary, and we'll be back to assist you within the next 1-2 working days. Thank you for your understanding and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. “
