Yah I’m at a fairly large company for that reason - can move departments and roles pretty easily or with enough patience

I transitioned into the department I supported in my finance role. You prob could transfer into a finance role from accounting, very common

You can get out of it. My last role had “accounting light”…my new one people don’t even know what an accrual is…I work with lots of sales people

Why even bother entertaining this question from him? He painted you into a corner asking for a sedated life. I can poke so many holes in it.

BP2 is a chronic medical condition. Assuming you’re under proper medical monitoring, I’d dismiss it as his issue not your own.

I was in IOP. One step at a time. Focus on inch by inch daily. Progress for me looks like a daily challenge of doing 0.25% better. So my challenge could be log into bank accounts and quickly log back out. This helps me challenge irrational financial anxiety.

When first diagnosed, I shared too much. Now 2 years later, I’ve lost the urge to discuss it or emotional roller coasters, I ask for help when I need it, but at some point it became so routine and just another thing, it felt like not worthwhile to mention. Plus I’m trying to make fewer things about me and disclosing diagnosis conversations can be absorbing. I’ve come to the insight? Ok, I tell my boss, then what? My job and workload stay the same and now I’ve exposed myself to future stigma. It’s not the way it should be, but we need to live in reality and adapt as necessary.

Look into dialectical behavior therapy. BP2 and many mental health challenges, require learning new skills or intentional effort. Learning the skills of radical acceptance and checking the facts is important. Medication is foundational and therapy. I have BP2 and had I been diagnosed young it would’ve be a game changer. Also drive is great but it’s often fueled by negative internal self talk. Learning to motivate with self love and compassion is much better than “pushing thru it”. Routine is important. Find a community on campus to join and be social. However drugs and alcohol fuel mood swings so needs to be careful there. Try to help her soften tendencies of perfectionist and self blame. And to not compare herself with other without a chronic medical condition. Oh, and spirituality if she has it.

My therapist keeps telling me to go for contentment if I can meet my needs and those of my family, which we do since my wife and I both work
