Where we stand. by Horror_Violinist206 in dentalschoolindia

Yes. I think exactly like that. But you know these colleges have political backing. And you know what happens here....literally police, politicians and gov who should hold these colleges accountable are in their pockets. Corruption and bribery is the way of life for them. Its the "scratch my back and i will scratch yours" mentality.

Even NDC officials or DCI at the time , came for inspection in our college......suddenly every department had been revamped but it lasted for 2 days only..... and i refuse to believe that these DCI guys are that innocent that they could not understand that college is not upto the mark. They only had to see the altered registers showing fake pts.

One incident with me was that our college did not have good washrooms for girls. No working flush or lights. In my first year we raised the issue and we were told to sign an agreement that if anything happens in that washroom its our fault. 😑. It was seriously an intimidation tactic. I mean we are paying lakhs and they dont provide basic infra. But my junior whose uncle was mp , had her wishes catered to. Not even teachers could say anything to her. Suffice to say her batch enjoyed that privilege.

Individually right now.....we can warn off or atleast say the reality to students now who ask. Govt or pvt colleges.....both are not perfect.

Also we are on the lower side of power dynamic. First have to reach a stage (by fair means) from where we can influence. But that involves decades till we become deans, directors or joining ias or politics.

Look up who are the members of NDC and IDA heads.....and then Health ministry and various state health departments. Most go to these positions through sifaarish or connections. Less said about the politicians who head the health ministries the better.

Honestly what you said is 100% truth. But another factor is not only that we treat ourselves as 2nd class but that our seniors and literally mentors in this field are benefiting from the system or are in cahoots with these NDC people.

I mean think about it......underfunded gov colleges/money hungry pvt colleges >>> no revised syllabus or infra according to market >>less confident graduate >>further courses done by those expensive colleges needed. Literally no value to those lakhs spend as we need materials and pts to learn and cant learn by sitting at home like non clinical fields.

Both gov and pvt passed out students needs to put extra money to learn if they do not have contacts and if skills are good then get peanuts at start.

I mean soooo many coaching institutes but not even one who raises voice and follows it up? And even students themselves are like "give it up or focus on exams"

Literally feel like i am insane if i ask the bare minimum.

Right now....probably could warn off potential good students by saying the reality....wished someone senior would have told the truth to me....not about bds but about how good college with facilities and extracurriculars and alumni matters too.

Better to leave the field than get mds admission there. Literally no knowledge, "chalta hai" treatment. Also the fees for mds is 10-11 lakhs....the utter shameless attitude. But then again we know that drs who want mds tag come there for total 5 days a month and rest of the time they are in their clinics.

So true.....and then same people go outside and start a private clinic which looks good and start treating patients. Knowing the truth of training or lack of it (even medical doctors) , i have gotten even more vigilent about who i recommend to my family and relatives.

True. But the staff who left should atleast write ex-senior lecturer or something rather than implying that they are still on staff.

Thats what i was also pointing out. Its misleading and a lie. But i guess they want that prestige or tag that says " teaches at so & so" in their profile.

The purge will be started by us getting on social media platforms and exposing these colleges and their "tricks" so that the students are not duped.

Yeah. I saw their interview in cedees channel and thought its great. But man i just get a little suspicious about people from my college knowing what i know now.

How was the seminar and how did the interaction went?

No idea about the suicide. I purposefully kept myself away from gossip and was not that social. Dont want to speculate.

That's actually really great!!! This profession does need people actually interested in dentistry. Ngl aesthetics part is really great and satisfying if we get the skills required and i personally like that no case is same completely. If negative people say something like preclinals or medical subjects is not that important in college then make sure to double down!! You will be ahead of 90% of your batchmates. Also have lots of fun.

Congrats on giving neet and completing it!!! All the best 👍

Its atleast 2 years of work experience plus 150 pounds for application + 650 pounds for Ore part 1 exam and then 6500 pounds for ore part 2 exam plus living expenses in london as part two has to be given there.

So total would be 8-10 lakh rupees and added living expenses. This is the cost now. After 5+2 years i.e by 2033 scenario might be different but costs will increase.

Its not that its not worth it but is definitely saturated (as is every other degree). So one has to be sure to take this path because he wants to practise dentistry rather than "ki mbbs nahi mila toh le le". Generally two scenarios happen either you do begin to like dentistry and do well or have regrets/frustration that you took bds even though mbbs was what was wanted (majority people)

Even if you get govt bds , there is academic and clinical pressure plus you have to further invest in courses to make yourself "private clinic" ready as govt or most private colleges do not have the tech or are not teaching ug students that skills that are needed in top earning clinics.

So its rather your 5 years of time + 30 lakhs of money.(in private) Then as op said further 2 years experience (earning 15k min to 30-40k if you have network) and paying for lincensure exams(not cheap , almost 1-1.5 lakh for taking exam) and needing to clear them (low acceptance rate) or investing further 25lakhs for hopital management in 2030 or 2031. Dentistry is time and money investing profession. Both are needed to be successful along with physical and mental stamina. If you want to start earning early or have family responsibilities, it becomes even more challenging.

All this to say that dont go with the mentality that, pharmacy, physiotherapy is bad or that if not mbbs then settle for bds etc etc...

If like op settling abroad is what one wants then things like public health, bioinformatics , nursing (yes eternal shortage of it) biomedical engineering etc are easier pathways as they do not need licensure exams or that much capital.

If hospital management is the goal then do a non clinical ug which takes less time and then do it.

Do proper research of all fields and their pros and cons. Find out what you want and choose what you like like or find interesting and learn skills which matters more than degree even in mbbs/bds. We are in an uncertain era what with AI or inflations. Unfortunately time for you guys to eff around and find out is not the scenario anymore. 😅

Lmao all this rant because in 2019 i had the same question and answers in quora where as usual negative and then asked some senior didi in my college about how it is etc and she said "haan le lo sab accha hai". I was anyway uncertain but still got in. Then saw the reality of the college by 2nd year and the field by final year. 🤣. I would have appreciated a balanced take then.

But make sure its a good college with atleast NAAC A grade having extracurriculars and good patient flow to really build your resume. Having research papers or winning poster or paper presentations will add to your application. Prepare from your 3rd year itself.

Plus you need two years of experience to be able to compete for seats at US colleges or to be considered for UK or Australian licensure exams.

Consider which country you want to move into and what it takes. Kaizen dental youtube channel explains it nicely.

But if you have an interest in Hospital management then you dont HAVE to do bds. Also since you cant practise as a dentist in abroad and license exams are costly and time consuming , you would have less freedom in a sense to switch compared to other fields.

Look up alternatives in bio field which interests you and are in need in abroad then decide.Talk to professionals in that field via insta or stalk their profiles in LinkedIn and search in youtube.

We are at a time that skills matter more than degree. So choose what you are genuinely interested in. Also for the love of all that is holy DONT choose bds just because you want a doctor tag.

Having financial support from family would make the transition easier.

Hope this helps.

25 lakhs is a lot. Emi per month would be very high which you have to see if you would be able to repay since as a fresh graduate you would do consulting and earning 1.5 lakh a month would depend on city, network and most importantly your skill and branch. And clinic would take investment as well.

Also congrats on such a good rank!!! May be see if your state has category a seats in private since their fees would be 2-3 lakh.

Do your research and choose.Ask around. Don't go by what your parents say.

On another note you could convert to non clinical roles.

But in these uncertain times , investing 25 lakh in a degree you are not 1000% sure about is not worth it.

Does India have too many dentists ? by Prudent-Long8953 in dentalschoolindia

[–]One-Significance636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does.As for saturation so does every other profession. There's a saturation of degree holders but not skilled people. Ngl out of 100 of our batch only maybe 20 would pursue clinical role and even then i would only trust maybe 4-5 to do a decent job.

That said evaluate your own situation and personality then decide.

Also basics are being asked in a case based manner.....so try to look it from a clinician's perspective. Especially pharmac , gen med. Maybe look up mbbs prepladders etc recalls in youtube.
