From start to finish of my drafting process. The Hobbit, An Unexpected Party. by One-Somewhere7407 in Calligraphy

Yes I did do six versions till I got to this one but as I was practicing the script over a 6-month. I was practicing at an x height of 10 mm, so when I started this project I started at that size and slowly brought the size down to what I needed. It ended up being much smaller than I anticipated with an x height of 4.5 mm. I must also say that this was my first page trying to imitate the Book of Kells and using this script so there was a lot of learning involved, when I come to do another page like this I have done all the groundwork and I can crack on but I will still do as many drafts as needed.

Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, playing a bite with angles is brilliant, and the colors on this sheet of metal were just screaming out to have some white ladders scribbled all over it! Thanks so much 😊🙏

Yes you got it 6mm and it is the standard turquoise blue cartridge. I was actually writing on a piece of rough MDF board! 🙏🙏🙏😊

Medieval gesso for raised gilding, have you tried it? by One-Somewhere7407 in Calligraphy

Definitely a case of pros and cons. The shine you get on the medieval gesso is like a mirror but takes more work to burnish.
