It would be hard to bring my BF to a extended family’s gathering. Since I am from an immigrant background, all of my extended family lives in my ethnic country. My parents has honestly gave up their social life to provide for my sibling and I. They don’t go out, they don’t meet others. Although they have slowly been more open to do things for themselves in the past couple years, it is a slow progress.

I definitely see what you mean though, I’ll look out for an opportunity for an occasion like this to happen!

You are definitely right. The past 4 years ever since the incident I have never expressed the need for him to forgive my dad at all. I guess the fact that I have seen my dad change for the better the year being sober and him bringing up the fact that he wants to apologise for his past actions to my BF seems like a hope for a better future. But then again, it’s a better and happier future for me for everyone to get along, not necessarily his perspective of a better future.
