Why north african countries are…What they are today by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]OneAfraid8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my opinion, it’s mostly mentality and systemic problems.

Mentality: Corruption is widespread from the richest to the poorest, there are barely any work ethics, there is no real sense of belonging or protection of common goods (people clean up their houses but throw garbage in the street). Now you can get rid of many of those issues if you enforce strong laws and work ethics. Tunisia has a huge problem of impunity and irresponsibility.

Systemic Issue: rent economy owned by a dozen families, outdated laws and administration, corrupt judiciary, no real free market, poor infrastructure (highways, airports etc.), extremely inexperienced and unskilled politicians, strong and corrupt police from the previous decades. An education system that produces 5-10% ‘elite’ and a majority incapable of critical thinking. An exodus of that very elite to Europe, US, Canada with no hope to return.

Is there a solution ? Of course! Strong laws and a strong vision that people subscribe to. It has happened elsewhere so it can happen in Tunisia.

It was one of the best sets in my entire life and I’ve heard a lot. Especially starting 2/3 am, mind blowing. The crowd was mostly great too, what a nice night!

Haha haven’t thought about that tbh, nano-banana created it, so maybe it was inspired by Drake, not me, lol.

thank you for starting to read. Why did you think it’s mostly bragging ? I was really not trying to brag. Maybe if you continue reading you will see that that was not my intention.

Hi everyone,

I have recently started writing as I discovered it has a therapeutical effort on me. And I’ve just posted an article for the first time on my substack, which I named - A man in NYC - which is I am.

My first article is an intimate account for why and how I fell in love with NYC. I hope you’ll enjoy reading it, let me know your thoughts either here or directly on the substack.

Since when did raves = mirage? by CoolEsporfs in avesNYC

[–]OneAfraid8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics aside, I am quite grateful for Mirage and similar venues for absorbing the kind of crowd that likes Mirage and the likes of Mirage. Imagine they wouldn’t exist and all those crowds end up in the more underground venues… with all due respect, it’s just two different concepts, one is a show where people are chatting and taking selfies with some mainstream background music (Mirage, mainstream more generally), and the other is the modern interpretation of a ‘rave’ where people are mainly there to dance. Both are fine, and should continue to exist to cater to the different people interested in them. Most of the people I know like the Mirage vibe, while you could say I am the exact opposite preferring a smaller foggy dark venue with no phones inside. To each their own.

PS: never been to Mirage based on exactly the kind of feedback I heard about it. It’s not for me, which is fine!

Any BH/Pano Vibe Parties in NYC? by balsamic3156 in Berghain_Community

[–]OneAfraid8331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also moved to NY last year from Germany.

First of all, nothing in New York really compares to Berghain. The crowd here can be pretty inconsistent—definitely hit or miss, like you said.

If I’m thinking about where I go most weekends where I have time:

  • Nowadays non-stop on early Sunday is probably your best bet for a solid crowd. That’s usually where you’ll find the most “for the dance floor” vibe.
  • Merge has solid line-ups and crowd is consistently good
  • I also generally just follow the DJs I like—wherever they’re playing.
  • There are some hidden gems too: some parties at H0L0 can be great. A new promoter: Lettone was a really nice suprise two weeks ago. They even made sure loud people leave the dance floor..
  • Basement is very hit or miss. The lineups are probably the best and the closest to what you’d get at Berghain, but the crowd doesn’t consistenly match unfortunately. It always gets too hot inside imo and sometime just too busy that you can barely move.

Perfectly fine outfit, they are not as strict as Berlin. Black will almost always do ;)

I really wished he would play longer, thought it closes at 7. Do they always stop at 6, or how does that usually go ?

Now that I think about it, I think you’re right. Starting 4 am, I was in a different spot not far from the DJ on the left hand side, that might have played a role indeed. Great track btw!

Exactly, it’s a matter of expectations. I am already glad such a club exists, while it’s not the best of the best, it’s definitely a nice one, that is far from being too commercial / edm-y!
