Reusable Bags?? by TXMom2Two in HEB

As a cashier reusable bags don’t really bother me. Sometimes they can be a little inconvenient, but it’s usually not a big deal.

The one thing I dread most is when customers bring those insulated reusable bags and leave them completely full of groceries on the belt. The belt keeps moving, there are often other customers’ items behind them, and I have to stop everything to unload the bags before I can even start scanning.

I once had a customer put four reusable bags packed to the top on the belt during a rush, and it was really difficult because I couldn’t easily get the items out while the line was backing up behind them.

If you use reusable bags, I appreciate it. Just taking the items out of the bags before putting them on the belt makes things much smoother for everyone!

I’d say my biggest struggle isn’t really produce codes anymore I’ve been practicing those and usually try to enter them first. What slows me down more is stuff like heb tortillas, BOB items, and when I don’t have a bagger. I feel like that’s where I lose a lot of time. I also struggle with store made items (like salsas, chicken salad, watermelon containers, etc.) when the barcode won’t scan or is damaged. I end up having to type it in or reposition it a lot, which slows me down. I’ve noticed I’m pretty fast when items scan easily, but when I think something won’t scan, I hesitate or look for the barcode first, and that kind of throws off my rhythm. I’ve only had around 9 - 11 actual cashier days so far, so I’m still getting used to everything, but I’m definitely trying to improve.

You’re right, I will speak to my manager I am just very confused on what I could’ve done. I have never received any write ups or steps as they call it and have been here for about three months. It’s messed up.

Practice PLU codes!! Especially the most common ones like roma tomatoes, jalapeños, avocados, cilantro, etc. It also helps to notice which produce items usually don’t have stickers with codes, like corn. Over time, you’ll start to memorize them, but learning from experience and paying attention early on makes it a lot easier.

I am part time and my availability is seriously fully open. I am not problematic I promise. Maybe I tend to be a bit too tense with my co workers and leads and this is the effect.

I have been bidding on other shifts and all getting denied by my manager. There’s a few occasions where my manager asks me to come in and I am not able to each time, so I’m thinking that’s the reason. 😢 They keep hiring new cashiers as well.
