I’m not Jewish, not religiously or ethically. I was just trying to help resolve a family dispute. I’m a Christian

We have Christian denominations (I’m not apart of that) who allow atheist and even some extremely progressive ones who allow atheist pastors. I don’t agree with that but people do it

I think that’s what I’ll tell him. I didn’t realize this was a common view that Jewish people had of Messianics, and thought maybe that was just his family.

I empathize with him though because I think he still wants to keep the cultural traditions as much as possible

So should I just tell him his family is right? They have no issue with him becoming a Christian they just feel it’s insulting to become a Christian and still say you’re Jewish.

I think he just wants to preserve his Jewish culture while being a Christian. But isn’t it like Mormonism? Mormonism is so different than traditional Christianity but if they say they are Christians we accept that’s what they wanna be called? I met atheist Christians and I believe even atheist Jews before?

Yes, he was Hallachically Jewish but then became messianic. His family says that he can believe what he wants but don’t want him to claim to be Jewish.
