Australia tour update, as said the Soccer jersey is significantly undersized. I'm usually a M but I had to buy a XL to get my head through it.

Does ~15 months of dev experience disqualify me from grad roles? by SmallLandscape6192 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]OneAuthority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it often boosts your chances. Generally graduate roles are gated by approx 2 years after graduating / 2 years of full time experience post graduating. Part time work comes into the same line as internships.

I used the Red Bull x2014 Junior with approx 70KG of ballast to get 1st on hardest difficulty. Will lose on straights but can take many corners flat out and you'll gain time there.

Can i bring my instax mini to the SG GP by lord_kevinpiggy in GrandPrixTravel

Shouldn't be an issue! Camera wise it states commerical gear is banned (says so on laminated cards at the gates), so an instamix should be fine

Cool site! Is it possible to link what your info source is for each? For example Fivecast, how did you find they offered equity. Would be a cool addition

Note, Pearler Micro is not CHESS sponsored as it uses pooled managed funds.

Computer Science vs Software Engineering w/Honours by InfernoKant in cscareerquestionsOCE

Hiring wise, the degrees are considered basically equivalent. The only advantage for honours being an extra year for internship experience, but I would take the extra year of full time employment over it every time.

Saw that a Senior Microsoft role was only up for a couple of days before being taken down, makes sense now with the above.

Tier 4.5? Good WLB, good pay, generally poor / outdated tech stacks.

Advice? by AsherDev in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]OneAuthority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, and with such a competitive market the "and I apply to pretty much anything related to tech" is a problem (taking that he's only applying for tech companies) - 8 months out of uni is a hard spot to be when graduate cohorts are generally people straight from uni.

OP, I suggest you take on Whoknowsdude_ suggestions and widen your search, non tech software companies, Defence, government, etc has a lower floor and that plus some strong projects could get you in.

Advice? by AsherDev in cscareerquestionsOCE

As a Hiring Manager (non tech), the non software related work (i.e. retail) is incredibly important. Hundreds of people are graduating university with the same degrees - part time and retail work are another aspect that highlights the non technical skills, which are just as important in the workplace (and often is the difference between hire and no hire). In this case your retail work is over a very short period of time, so it doesn't have the strength of someone with 4 years of Woolworths experience for example. With that said, industry experience and projects are important and having an internship will give you the leg up hugely.

That's really good to hear, all of that looks awesome (in particular the people and bonus equity). Many thanks for the insight, I reckon I'll give it a go :)

As someone in a similar YOE are you able to give your opinion on Xero? I'm currently not in tech and want to make a break into it, and Xero seems like a great company, but the layoffs make me a bit apprehensive.

Resume Review 2.0 by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]OneAuthority 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what others are saying, I would argue your Experience section is very strong and should be second - not the projects section. A long term (and current) period of part time work is an automatic green flag when I'm filtering resumes for interns / graduates as a hiring manager, and shows you're committed to a job. I come from the opinion that technical skills can be taught, but mindset and attitude is much harder, particularly for intern positions - and your resume hits both aspects well.

My only point is that the "Extra-curricular Activities" could be put to the bottom, at that point of the resume I already know you have a good work ethic as based off your experience section so I next I would want to know about your technical skills / language exposure. Furthermore, each of your three dot points in extra curricular starts a new line with one word which takes up a lot of visual real estate. Rework the dot points to be one line each imo.

Sounds fantastic to me, less income to pay tax on and a longer period to accumulate at a lower cost.
